Back to Work

I went back to work today.  After a two week break, that was hard.

It was hardest on Sky.

But everyone made it through the day.

And the days are starting to get longer.  Not that I really notice it yet, but some hen has noticed.

I am pretty amazed that my Easter egg hen is laying since she’s going to be nine in another month or so.

I’ll be watching those sunsets to see if they really are getting later in the evening.

This was a beautiful sunset from the first day of 2026.

As much as I usually love the geese, we’ve had a lot of cases of bird flu in the state, so I’m glad they just kept on going past the acreage.

I think my young hens have it figured out!

I still have the fake eggs in the nest boxes, and I have still found an occasional egg on the floor, but it is getting better.

Hopefully, they’ll continue to improve.

In related news, I have not found any goose eggs yet.  I’m okay with that because my sweet girls get rather cranky when they are laying.

As an aside, I hadn’t seen the opossum for a while, and I was starting to think he moved on.

Guess not.  Pretty sure he’s the one who threw my fake egg out of the nest box and put a tooth hole in the one the next box over.  Naughty Roo.
