Thinking About June Babies

So far, my efforts at breeding for 2026 has not gone well.  I am pretty sure Melba is bred for an oopsie baby. I think Daisy is bred.

My last day of work (as long as we don’t have snow days) is June 5th.  That means, just as I’m headed back to work in January, it will be time to mix boys and girls to make June babies.  That will take some planning.  I have too many boys and Melba was bred by Gabe or Donkey, and I really wanted her to be bred to Greg or Kong to bring those lines back into the herd.  I also need to think about our usually coldest months with Gabe and his naked neck.  Seriously…

Anyhow, I think I’ll put Gabe and Joy (and maybe Daisy just to make sure she’s bred) in the buck room.  I can shut the door if it gets cold, and that would be beneficial to Gabe.

Then I have to figure out what to do with the two little bucks.  Obviously, I don’t have a girl to put with both of them.  I am planning on breeding Kong to Antigone.  I think I’ll put them in the Morton building.

It’s big enough, and I already have a pen in the back, so I think I’ll just try to keep Greg back there.  And if it gets cold and I need something to do with Wanda, it’s big enough I can try to create another pen for her.

That just leaves Donkey.  I’ll leave him where he’s at and put Pretzel in with him.

And that’s it.  Should be easy, huh?  Well, they’re goats, so we’ll probably do all that moving around the goat way.
