After the horrible experience last year where I had girls abort due to a bacterial infection, I checked with my vet. We are finally getting a solid ground freeze. We rely on that every winter to help reduce the amount of bacteria and parasite eggs in the soil. It’s been three years since we had an adequate freeze.
And since Daisy and Melba are due in March and April, they will not benefit from this current cold snap. That means, they will get antibiotics to hopefully prevent any losses this year. I hate to do that, but there is no way to test and see if it is necessary or not. I’m not going to risk it.
I can’t even say 100% that Daisy is bred, but Pluto usually lets me know when she’s in heat, and he hasn’t done that in ages. So I’m guessing she is.
Melba is really starting to look round. Of course, I have no idea who bred her since she busted in with Gabe and Donkey.
You’d think it would be easy–tan baby means Donkey; black baby means Gabe. But that’s not actually certain because Melba’s mom is also black, so she could have either one herself.
Oh well, I really don’t care as long as they arrive safely.
