Winter and Wanda

13 Jan

I have been babying Wanda.  I babied her last winter.  I decided I should have the vet assess her and make sure he thought she could make it through the winter because I want to do what’s right for my goats, and I am sometimes afraid I’m not objective.  So he came and visited her just after I penned her in the Morton building.

He decided her weight was okay.  It was obvious she’s eating.  Trust me, she eats a lot!

Where’s my food?

So I pointed out that she is the one who had a back injury many years ago (a copper thing).  Sometimes she’s good and sometimes it bothers.  But her stance changed.  He did say that he could tell she’s weaker in the back end, but he didn’t think it was too bad at this point.

In short, he said she’s right where she needs to be–in a deeply bedded building where nobody will pick on her and she gets a lot to eat.

We also started her on some meds for her back.  That’s fun.

Drench to get her meds

She’s not a fan of the meds, but they should help her rest and manage any arthritis pain.
