The Breeding Plan

4 Jan

Well, it was time to mix everyone for June babies.  I have Gabe in the buck room.  I thought he’d appreciate the warmer building with his naked neck.

Gabe (I turned on the heat lamp for him)

I put Daisy in there.  I haven’t seen her come back into heat, but at her age, this is my last chance to get a baby from her.

Then I added Joy.  I did see her come back into heat, so she will definitely have to have June babies.

Gabe, Joy and Daisy coming to see if I brought yummy snacks.

Donkey stayed where he was at.

Then I put Pretzel in there with him.  I do still have all the fence toppers on so that she doesn’t climb out again.  Seriously…

The two little boys were my tricky ones.  Mostly because I only had one girl left and I didn’t have a great way to divide them up (I have too many bucks).

Greg (back) and Kong

I put them in the Morton building.

Greg and Kong (yes, the little girl was in heat)

I was going to put Greg in the pen where Antigone would stay overnight, but that panel is not very big, and I really needed to make sure nobody was going to jump pens.  So I spent a lot of time redoing pens.

I divided the Morton building in half, and then put Greg in half of the back half.

Gereg won’t get a girl this year, so he is one I’ll keep to breed next year.  Which I’m good with because he’s a kind of sweet goofy boy.

Greg loves food, and even better if it isn’t his!

Kong and Antigone are together in the front half of the building, and they have the outside pen.

Then, to make things a bit more fun, I had to make another pen for Wanda.  She got the other half of the back.

Wanda (Greg was trying to figure out how to reach her sweet feed).

She still needs a bit extra to keep her weight up, and I’m kind of worried about her.
