This Is Getting Old

15 May

Guess what!  I went out to pasture on Thursday and the goats were out.  Seriously.  This time it was over half the herd.

Luckily, when we put the fence up back there we left a panel at the end in case of an emergency.  Well, this was an emergency.

I opened it and they came back in.  The kids who were not on the same side as their moms were quite happy.

Gidget too.

I couldn’t even find where they got through. You’d think it would be fairly obvious when you have Moose and Casey getting through.

Anyhow, that was a project for the next morning.  I think I’ve got it now.  At least for today.  I’m about ready to quit going out to pasture to check on them.

The First Day of Spring Break

8 Mar

With our nice weather, I’ve decided I can let my girls having kids stay outside.  I don’t have to shut them all in small pens to wait for delivery.

I did however decided I wanted to separate them from the rest of the herd.  That means, I had to build a temporary fence across the barnyard, from the corner of the Love Shack pen to the corner of the greenhouse pen.  I did this about three years ago (the last time we had nice weather over spring break), and it worked well, so my first day of spring break was spent getting this set up.

I had just put the panels out, when the goats came up from pasture.  Those wethers are so helpful.

Finally, I got the fence up with everyone on the Back Forty side.

Moose would like to lodge a complaint.

I moved most of the girls over.  The only two left for me to catch are Zinnia and Mary.  And they are the last two due, so I’ll try to catch them in the next couple of days, and it will be fine.

It didn’t take long for them to figure out to go out to pasture.

Gidget and Victoria headed out to eat.

It won’t be long before 2TC has company.

I did have to shut Maggie and Harley in the Love Shack because they just are not up to running around.

Cookie I did let out. We’ll see how she does.  There’s room in the Love Shack if I need to put her in with Maggie and Harley.

Of course, Marge and Chiffon are wherever they want to be.  Silly bratty girls.  I’m not sure why the are in the Love Shack eating hay, but they have to go through there to get from one side to the other.

I think I’m ready for kidding to begin!

A Touch of Spring

2 Feb

After gloom and fog and yucky weather for the last week or ten days (or more), we had sunshine this weekend!

It was not so nice, however, that my little shadow Venus would follow me out to pasture.  They really don’t like snow.

The goats were all basking along the barn though.

Of course, all the big, fat wethers take the best spots in the doorways.

If you don’t believe me, Casey was in the small door.

Pluto isn’t big or fat, but he is cute.

There was lots of snow melting.

Eveyone was just hanging out.

It was absolutely wonderful!
