Odds, Ends, and Leftovers

20 May

I managed to get my garden re-planted.  I didn’t have my camera up there though, so you get a picture of my garlic and potatoes in containers.

My strawberry bed in containers is also doing well.

Penelope has reached that awkward stage where she can easily put her head through the fence, but she can’t get it out.  I’m hoping that she outgrows this phase quickly.

If not…I still have my horn apparatus left over from Hera.

Maybeline is such a pretty girl.  I hope the llama shearer comes soon since our weather is starting to warm up.

I am really starting to wonder how many kids Hilda has in there.  She’s still got a month to go.

Wanda’s fur is growing back where she was naked all winter.  I’m pretty sure our warm, humid air has helped it not be dry and itchy.  She been rubbing it off with her horn every time it started to grow back, but it is finally looking good.

I’m guessing part of the problem with her fur having come off and her back injury were due to low copper.  I don’t understand that because she’d never shown a sign of the copper issues before.  Sadly, I’m afraid I am seeing the neurological symptoms of in vetro copper deficiency in her kids.  Lou is holding his own for now.  We’ll see what happens.

I’m afraid Lainey’s issues are too severe for her to continue much longer.

This just breaks my heart.  I gave those goats a ridiculous amount of copper throughout the last year, and I’m getting ready to do another round in the next week or two.

Getting Ready for Frost

10 Oct

I really need to make it up to the garden before it frosts this weekend.  I’m not sure I’m going to make it.  But I did bring my tower of little strawberry plants in from the porch.

I hope they make it.  I have one huge worry for them–Rocky!

Rocky

Don’t let that sweet innocent look fool you.  He’s quite naughty.

Hopefully, they’ll grow up and be as productive as the big ones I brought in after the dog flung them all across the yard.  They are doing well. I can’t believe they still have berries on them.

They are even sending out shoots again.

You can see Rocky played in the dirt where I’m trying to get it to root.  Brat.

Mondays are Ruff

The dog has had a hard to adjusting to me going back to work.

When I get home, he gets really mouthy and demanding.

Then he gets the zoomies and races all around the yard.

When we go in, he just wants me to play ball and tug-of-war and annoys the cats.  I do play with him, but he doesn’t seem to get how exhausted I am and how I can’t just leave goats and gardening until later.  This means that he gets a bit naughty.  Hard to believe, I know.

“Why don’t you love me anymore?”

Last week, I came home to find all of my big strawberry plants had been ripped off the deck table and strewn around the yard.  I was not happy.  I did get them repotted, and now they are in the house for their protection.

Except Rocky isn’t much better.  I still have my little strawberries in the tower on the front porch to keep Rocky from playing in the dirt.

Most of them are doing well, but I’m waiting for them to fill the dirt a bit better before bringing them back into the house.

I swear. These two.

It’s no wonder we can’t have nice things around here.
