Just Some Critters

19 Jun

Here are some of the critters from the last week or so.  Aurora is looking much better now that her fleece is growing out.

I can’t believe my baby Myson turned eight in March.  How is the whole herd getting so old?

My older lady goose is sitting on the nest.  I was a bit worried when she decided to sit with that open wire behind her.  A raccoon could easily grab her.

So I closed the door, and when it scared her, she stepped off the nest.  Luckily there is only about eight or ten eggs in the nest.

Aurora again.  She has been really sweet lately and giving lots of kisses.

My peacock is looking pretty handsome.  I obviously need to clean out their area though.

Seven is such an adorable baby.  He makes me laugh.  He is ornery and funny and hard to catch, but as soon as you pick him up, he’s a snuggler.

Archie is growing and doing well.  He really is striking with the black and white and silvery tan!

Somehow, Popcorn got left in the barnyard again so I walked him down to the herd in the Back Forty.  He’s a good kid, sticking close to his maa.

Stitch and Purl are growing.  I go out several times a day to pet and cuddle Purl.

It’s working!  She’s a sweetie.

Sky still sits on the couch and in the chair like this. He’s finally getting to a point where I can go outside and he doesn’t think he has to come too.  He’s enjoying lounging in the air conditioning.  Wimp.

What a goof.

The Garden is Growing

4 Jun

The rain last week was good for my garden.

It has, however, made it challenging to keep up with the weeds.  I’m also not a fan of weeding in horrible heat, but I’m working on it.

I am grateful for the help my mother has given me as well.

Besides the garden, I do have some raspberries that are growing in my yard (thanks to the birds).

My cherry tree is loaded with fruit.

I was worried that the late frost would damage them, but they look good.

Rainy Day and Thursday

14 May

Yesterday evening, the rain came.

It was gentle and slow to start, which is good because it gave me time to check on Uno and Seven since they had just moved.  Uno somehow managed to injure himself.  I really have no idea how.  Poor baby, but he’ll be fine.

Uno

Xerxes is innocent.  He didn’t have a drop of blood on him, so I know he wasn’t fighting with the kid.  He is actually happy to have company.

Xerxes

While I was up checking on Uno, I also found Seven.  He had moved himself back up there.  Again I don’t know how Uno managed to hurt himself, but it looks like it might have been on the tub Seven is sleeping in.  That is all Uno blood.  Seven just looks dead.  He was sleeping quite soundly and unconcerned that his maa was yelling for him to come eat.

Seven

Don’t worry, I carried Seven back down to his maa.  Everyone got inside during the rain, but I did have to kick Pistol out of the buck room because she was picking on everyone.  Poor Antigone has to be without her maa now.

This morning after the rains had quit, I checked again, and everyone was fine.  Seven looks quite cozy in his new surroundings.  You can see he had been outside because he has wet legs.

Seven

Popcorn has been hanging out with the girls in the buck room; I hope he keeps going out to pasture with them like he did yesterday afternoon.

I am grateful for the rain because we’ve been rather dry. No matter how old I get, I still enjoy the bright color of a dandelion.

This will hopefully help the crops and let the seeds I had already planted in my garden to sprout.  It certainly has helped the lilacs finish opening.

I still haven’t decided if my cherry tree will actually have any cherries after our freeze.

sorry for the blur–Iowa is a windy state

Sky never seems to mind the rain.

This was a perfect rainy spring day!
