More Fiber Stuff

27 Feb

It has been crazy with the weather and taking care of Tony and everything else, but I do try to do something fun and relaxing after I get done with all my work for the day.

Pluto, Tony and Anubis

That might be knitting.  I’m kind of stuck on dish cloths.

Now I just need to find a new farmer’s market to take all these dish cloths to sell.

I did also manage to sneak in making another hat.  The yarn beside it will be my next hat.  This one actually fits an adult!

Because so much is going on, this post keeps getting pushed back, so that means I’ve also completed the second hat.

I also decided to turn the scarf I made using the rice stitch into an infinity scarf.  I have to admit it’s because I didn’t want to make tassels.  I like this better anyhow. Please ignore the model.  I had no other options.

Now I’m working on an infinity scarf using the fisherman’s rib stitch.  Obviously, I like green.

Recently, I’ve added spinning.  I’m trying to figure out how to use the spinning wheel Claire left for me to learn on.

I’m having mixed results with that.  I just keep my practice sessions short, so I don’t get too frustrated.

Most recently, I’ve tried some macrame.  I shared my feather already, but I am trying other things too.  I sometimes have a bit more help than I need.

Sky and Snickers

This one was a little piece just to practice the knots and such.

I do have plans for this pattern in a bit larger size.

I also want to integrate some of the roving from my llamas into macrame projects once I get it back from the fibre mill.  I should really quit looking at Pinterest; I already have too many ideas for things I want to try.

Beauty in the Cold

31 Jan

Our cold streak really started Monday with a snowy morning and white out conditions.  By afternoon, we had a beautiful sundog on the way home.

I might be an idiot, but I decided to go try and take pictures in the cold Wednesday.  Don’t get me wrong, I prepared for the cold.

I wore socks, slipper socks, fleece leggings, sweat pants, t-shirt, sweat shirt, coveralls, flannel coat, ski mask, ear warmers (over the mouth), and two pairs of gloves.  It was beautiful though, and I didnt want to miss an opportunity to capture it.

Even if it is a lot of work keeping water open to the animals, the frost is pretty.  You have to find the beauty in this cold, or it would drive you crazy.

I like the look of the cobwebs above the water tank. They are covered in crystals.

It also seemed like a good time to try those frozen bubble pictures.  Although, I did have to pull down the ear warmer/mouth cover to blow the bubbles.  Most of them just blew away because we still had a bit of a breeze.  I guess I need -20* and completely still air.  That’s hard to find.  I managed to get one to sit on my deck railing.

Because I wasn’t actually expecting one to stay, it was already deflating by the time I set my bubble wand and bottle down and got my camera up to take the pictures.  So much for being prepared.

I decided I had to be doing something wrong, so I did a search and found a homemade recipe and some advice.  That helped!  It was still too windy though.

Come back, bubble. I want to take your picture!

That meant I had to step inside the barn.

It’s not near as pretty when you don’t have the sun shining on it.  Although you can kind of see Betty Lou’s reflection in the bubble.

I also had a lot of help.  Bonnie was just wondering why I was standing out there.

Finally, the wind went down and I tried it one more time!

Success!  Well, it’s better.

The sunshine really helps make it pretty.

I will definitely try this again.

Routine Maintenance

28 Dec

The day after Christmas seemed like a good day for some routine maintenance around here.  First, I enlisted my mom’s help, and we went to the vet.  Rocky was our first victim.

Rocky

He was due for his annual shots.  He did quite well this year.  It didn’t even take major restraints to do it this time.

I also asked them if I could have Sky tag along to get his nails trimmed.

Sky

He’s so crazy.  You’d never know how sweet he can be by the way he acts when he’s around people.

He just still gets so puppy excited.  Sigh…

After the morning vet visit, I had to run to town for my annual Farm Credit Services loan visit.  I decided it was a good day for my once-every-two-years shearing.

They took off ten inches (I’m obviously not very good with selfies), so I could send it in to Locks of Love.

Another woman was getting her hair cut to donate too, but she didn’t seem too happy to discover she would have to mail it in and they didn’t even have an address for her, so I volunteered to send it with mine.

mine is already in the ziploc bag; hers was still drying

That’s a lot of hair!
