More Fiber Stuff

27 Feb

It has been crazy with the weather and taking care of Tony and everything else, but I do try to do something fun and relaxing after I get done with all my work for the day.

Pluto, Tony and Anubis

That might be knitting.  I’m kind of stuck on dish cloths.

Now I just need to find a new farmer’s market to take all these dish cloths to sell.

I did also manage to sneak in making another hat.  The yarn beside it will be my next hat.  This one actually fits an adult!

Because so much is going on, this post keeps getting pushed back, so that means I’ve also completed the second hat.

I also decided to turn the scarf I made using the rice stitch into an infinity scarf.  I have to admit it’s because I didn’t want to make tassels.  I like this better anyhow. Please ignore the model.  I had no other options.

Now I’m working on an infinity scarf using the fisherman’s rib stitch.  Obviously, I like green.

Recently, I’ve added spinning.  I’m trying to figure out how to use the spinning wheel Claire left for me to learn on.

I’m having mixed results with that.  I just keep my practice sessions short, so I don’t get too frustrated.

Most recently, I’ve tried some macrame.  I shared my feather already, but I am trying other things too.  I sometimes have a bit more help than I need.

Sky and Snickers

This one was a little piece just to practice the knots and such.

I do have plans for this pattern in a bit larger size.

I also want to integrate some of the roving from my llamas into macrame projects once I get it back from the fibre mill.  I should really quit looking at Pinterest; I already have too many ideas for things I want to try.

Never Too Old

7 Nov

You’re never too old to try something new.  That seems to be the story of my life, so when it was raining this weekend and I couldn’t didn’t want to go outside, I decided to try my new toy–a drop spindle and some roving.

I also got a book to go with the spindle, but I decided that would take too long to read to get me started.  That means, I went to a YouTube video to figure out how to get started.

It was definitely interesting.  I’ve never done anything with roving or yarn before, so spinning my own yarn was a huge step.

I did have expert supervision (although Snickers was sleeping on the job).

Sky (and Snickers in the box)

I did it!

It’s not very good.  It’s not at all consistent, but it’s a start.

I figure lots and lots of practice, and I should start figuring out how to do it a little better.  Then hopefully I’ll get a lot better.

It was a lot easier when Snickers was sleeping rather than helping.

Christmas in the Soaproom

6 Nov

It’s hard to believe, but I am frantically getting ready for Christmas in the Soaproom.  I’m going to be open again on Saturdays for the holidays.  I’m busy restocking my soaps.

I am going to do a huge clearance (only in the soaproom) sale to try and get rid of some soaps that haven’t been selling as well.  That will make room for new fragrances!  So far I’ve done the Fresh Mango.  I’m hoping to get more new fragrances made tomorrow evening.

I also have a lot of lotions to make.  I’m low on two types of lip balm.

The soap on the shelves above are waiting to be felted with Llenny’s roving.  I am also getting his roving ready for sale.

I have jams and jellies left from the pumpkin patch, but I do have a request for strawberry rhubarb.  Luckily, I have some fruit in the freezer.

I was very happily gifted with some bottles that will be perfect for my liquid soap.  Now I need to add fragrance to some of it (I always like an unscented option for things too) and bottle it.

I dug out my Christmas candles.

I have one shelf for candles and wax melts, but I still have some restocking to do along with some new fragrances to try.

My sister sent me some of her stools to put in here.

I also have some of my dad’s wood working items and my photography.

My 2017 calendar is now available.

I still have to make room for my mom’s Christmas ornaments, dream catchers and other items.  I think I need a bigger soaproom.

[Edit:  In case you’re interested, here’s the link to my Online Store.]

I hope you’ll come back and join me for Friday’s Hunt.  I have this week’s items listed at the top of my sidebar.
