Llamas in the Mist

28 Oct

Saturday morning started out quite dark and foggy.

I swear every starling in the county had gathered in my trees to squawk.  It was like a scene from a Hitchcock movie.

I much prefer the llamas in the mist.

Or just the pasture blanketed in fog.

It was beautiful!  And then the fog lifted.

It was a perfect fall day!

Walking the Perimeter

4 Dec

Yesterday, I had to go up to the north shed for a bit, so I decided I’d enjoy the unusually warm weather before we return to winter tomorrow.

I decided to walk the perimeter of the farm on my way back to the house.

I have to say, I love this old oak tree even if it is kind of in the middle of my cropland.  I really miss the one that fell several years ago.

On the back side, I got to see one blue jay.  Like I said the other day, there aren’t many birds out and about right now.

I hardly ever walk on this side of the field, so it was kind of nice to see the house and barn from this side.

By the time I got into the Back Forty, I was starting to wonder if it was a good idea to be walking out there.  Based on all the shooting, I’m guessing it was the opening of deer season.  Luckily, the stand just south of my farm was empty, and I didn’t get shot.

Sadly, I’m guessing this might be my last walk around the pasture for a while.

A Visit to Bud

16 Oct

I visited Bud tonight.

Oak Tree in pasture

I was a bit disappointed because he seems to be in more pain and not as chipper as he was on Monday.

Sunset Fence

I’m sure it’s normal to have ups and downs after such a major surgery (I did with my toe), but I worry about my sweet boy.

Sunset Corn

They are monitoring him closely, and I have confidence in the vets.  I just wish I were closer.

Sunset Corn

I’m sure he misses home and the herd too.  Goats do not like to be alone, but he doesn’t need his sister for company trying to use him as a pillow or pulling on his catheter.

Sunset Clouds

I did take him a treat of peanuts, and that made his eyes light up.  Tomorrow, I think I’ll take him some probiotics to go with those peanuts.
