Farewell Magnolia

1 Sep

I absolutely loved my magnolia tree.

When it was in full bloom, there was nothing more beautiful.

The scent was heavenly.

Although, I’ll never understand why anyone would plant a tree in the middle of three buildings with the electric lines strung between them.

It served as the backdrop for one of my favorite pictures ever.

It breaks my heart that the derecho took it out.

My dad and nephew came out this past weekend and finished removing it to have it out of the way when they come to do my electricity (Yeah, I still don’t have electricity to the house, but they have a plan for when they get to it.).

Having the tree gone definitely reveals why replacing the greenhouse is on my list of things that need to be done around here.

Now that it’s mostly cleaned out, I’m thinking ahead.  I liked it as a shade flower garden, but I think this might be the solution to me missing my herb garden. I think it has potential for some sage and oregano and strawberries and dill and chives and…

Sigh. That might make me miss it a little less.

Magnolia Skies

1.  This week, the topics for Nurture Photography are home or pink.  It’s perfect timing to share pictures of my magnolia tree.  I love my magnolia tree.  Honestly, when it doesn’t get frosted or destroyed by rains, there is nothing more beautiful.  I also love the way it makes my whole yard smell.

2.  We’ve had more rain this week which has completely eliminated the drought in my area.  In fact, it’s too wet for anyone to get in the fields.  It seems like we’re constantly going back and forth between too wet and too dry.  I’m really not made for this gambling farming lifestyle.

3.  This week I got to do senior portraits for some of our students graduating from the alternative high school where I work. I really enjoy doing these, and I think the kids appreciate it too.  You can see a sampling HERE.

4.  We’re about three weeks away from the start of kidding round 2.  Bonnie will kick us off on May 31.  It will be a whirlwind of kids being born with ten girls due between June 3 – 5.  Then there are a few after that.  I don’t plan on sleeping the first week of June.

5.  I have a buch of tomato seedlings sitting around my house, but it’s been too wet to work in the garden too.  This weekend is supposed to be cooler but dry.  Hopefully, I can get it cleaned off and ready to till and plant.

A Windy Day

27 Mar

We’ve had some pretty wild winds lately.  My beautiful magnolia tree is losing petals all over the place.

It’s not near as pretty anymore.

The wind has even whipped some whole flowers off and sent them tumbling across the yard.

I hope the winds die down a bit.
