Oopsie! I Was Wrong

21 May

When I did my Thursday evening check of the goats, I counted all ten kids.

I found Flora with her fresh horn apparatus on.  Because Wednesday evening, she was stuck in the fence again.

Perdita was there with her horn apparatus hanging from a single strand of duct tape.  But she was not in a fence!

Then I couldn’t find Purl.  Seriously.  I looked everywhere. Then I saw her clear down by the ditch.  I yelled down to remind her that the last goat is the one who gets eaten by the coyote.

Purl (she just hopped down when I took the picture)

Then I heard her talk.  That’s when everything flashed through my mind and I ran down to the ditch to see her oopsie baby.

She is one of the three girls I didn’t see come into heat when I put them in with the bucks to make June babies.

Venus was another.

That leaves Margarita.  So we might be having another oopsie baby in the near future.  Who knows?  Apparently, not me.

Anyhow, Purl did awesome.

Although, I do think she should have had him farther from the edge of the ditch.

I hauled him up to the Love Shack and she did a great job of following him.

They will stay in there for a day or two before moving up north.  Anyhow, I was wrong. We don’t have fourteen girls to have kids in June.  I don’t have a clue what’s going on.  I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

A Couple of Notes

6 Apr

I mentioned Aphrodite is my next girl due.  After that is Tansy.  I am pretty sure she settled, so she is due May 7th.

I’m not sure if Penelope settled or not. Honestly, I haven’t see any girls in heat recently.  I’ll have to check udders when we get a little closer to when they would be due if they settled.

I’m 100% certain Ostara is a keeper.  Her sister is really nice looking too, but she’s already nowhere near as sweet as Ostara.

Guess who got her head stuck in the fence!  Perdita better get that figured out, or…

she will be wearing a horn apparatus.  As you can see, she didn’t figure it out.  She is such a brat.

I can’t believe how sweet Bambi is now that she’s getting peanut butter meloxicam every day.  She just comes up to see me and sticks around even if I don’t have anything for her.

I am still working my way through trimming hooves.  I’ve mad a lot of progress considering the rotten weather, but I do want to try to get all of my moms done before I get them back with the main herd.

I might do that while I lead them through the garage back to the barnyard.  That might be a plan.

A Wild Nuisance

Lemuel is cute, but he’s wild.  I hoped he’d settle down with Frodo and Rosie, but it didn’t help.

At least the three boys get along well.

Benji, Lemuel, and Frodo

Unfortunately, Lemuel started getting his head stuck again.  Brat.  I finally cut another horn apparatus and trapped him in my tent and got the horn apparatus on him (Did you notice it in the picture above?).  He hasn’t been stuck since (knock on wood).

I will say, having Benji with my sweet girls for breeding and then being with Frodo has really helped make him friendly.

He’s a pretty silly guy.

I can’t wait to see the kids he gives me.
