Harley, Maggie, and Blaze

1 May

I moved Harley and Maggie from the Love Shack to the north paddock so they could have green grass and a little more room.

Maggie and free range hen

Of course, they have to share with the free range hen.  I can’t believe none of the others come out.

Anyhow, Maggie is still thin, but she eats like crazy and acts well.  She’s anemic, but she just got more copper.  I am not sure if it’s just old age and copper deficiency or CAE.  Harley, on the other hand, has a really good weight, but her mobility is getting worse.  She’s struggling to get up.  I’m going to have to call the vet to see if they can check her front foot and see if they can help her.

I’m pretty sure they are not going to make it through the summer.  Sorry, but that is the sad reality of farming and being a horrible livestock (letting them retire).  Blaze is also up here.  I had to do some touchup on her foot, and I’m hoping it feels better.  If not, I’ll have to call the vet and see if they can fix it.

I also brought 2TC up with her mom.

At least she’s doing really well.

The First Day of Spring Break

8 Mar

With our nice weather, I’ve decided I can let my girls having kids stay outside.  I don’t have to shut them all in small pens to wait for delivery.

Ava

I did however decided I wanted to separate them from the rest of the herd.  That means, I had to build a temporary fence across the barnyard, from the corner of the Love Shack pen to the corner of the greenhouse pen.  I did this about three years ago (the last time we had nice weather over spring break), and it worked well, so my first day of spring break was spent getting this set up.

Ava, Pistol, and Antigone

I had just put the panels out, when the goats came up from pasture.  Those wethers are so helpful.

Finally, I got the fence up with everyone on the Back Forty side.

Moose would like to lodge a complaint.

I moved most of the girls over.  The only two left for me to catch are Zinnia and Mary.  And they are the last two due, so I’ll try to catch them in the next couple of days, and it will be fine.

It didn’t take long for them to figure out to go out to pasture.

Annie (Cutie and Reva on the front pasture)

Gidget and Victoria headed out to eat.

It won’t be long before 2TC has company.

2TC with Wanda and Blaze

I did have to shut Maggie and Harley in the Love Shack because they just are not up to running around.

Cookie I did let out. We’ll see how she does.  There’s room in the Love Shack if I need to put her in with Maggie and Harley.

Cookie

Of course, Marge and Chiffon are wherever they want to be.  Silly bratty girls.  I’m not sure why the are in the Love Shack eating hay, but they have to go through there to get from one side to the other.

I think I’m ready for kidding to begin!

Winter Blogging

16 Feb

Sometimes blogging about the farm in winter is hard.  We don’t do a lot.  The goats mostly spend their time in the barnyard eating.

They do like to bask in the sun.

Three generations: Haley, Zinnia, and Joy

Sometimes they just find a place to stay out of the wind.

Stormy

There’s the occasional fight through the fence, but overall it’s pretty boring.

Harley and Cupid

There’s not a lot going on for me to take pictures of, and I sometimes struggle to be able to do a blog post every day.  We hit the good weather jackpot this weekend though! I think I took enough pictures for the next two weeks (seriously).

Fionn and Xerxes enjoying the weather

Maisie and Uno got to come out of the buck room.  I left them in the buck room pasture though in case it gets cold again.

I even took off Uno’s coat.

It was even nice enough that everyone went out to pasture!

Maybeline, Odie, and Aurora

Moira; Pluto and Venus; Penny

I even let a couple of the goats out of the greenhouse to join the rest of the herd.

Pistol and Antigone

Still, they are mostly just eating, but you’ll at least have different backgrounds with them eating.

And you’re really in luck if you like pictures of the tops of their heads.

And if you like posts with lots of pictures, you’re also in luck.
