Goats in Pasture

12 Aug

Since we’ve mowed the Back Forty, I’ve let the goats out on the back part again.

They are really enjoying it.

Even though we have horrible dry conditions, they still have lots to eat out there.

Not only is it good to eat, they can enjoy lying down and rubbing on the grass.

Bubbles

Apparantly Bubbles has been watching her maa, Mary.

Mary

Like mother; like daughter!

Penelope tried that too, but she couldn’t help but grab a blade of grass to nibble on.

Penelope

They spend a crazy amount of time out there wandering around and napping and eating.

Some of my June kids go out; some are still staying in the barnyard.

Myson, as usual, was glued to my side.

At least, this is one fence Hera isn’t going to get stuck in. Thank goatness!

I am really  happy to have Pluto back with everyone.  He’s such a sweet little guy.

We’re all enjoying the mowed grass.

Jailed and Exiled

11 Aug

Hormones really have kicked in.  It seems like the calendar change to August was like flipping a switch for the girls to come into heat.  Thursday night really saw a lot of girls flicking their tails and hanging out by the bucks.

Cupid and Xerxes

Cinnamon was all loopy and jumping the other girls.

Thursday evening, I had to catch Doc because he was relentlessly chasing Caroline around the barnyard.

Friday morning, Zinnia was being chased through the barnyard by about five of the March bucks.

Zinnia and Joy

That was bad enough, but then they went after Joy.

Joy

I caught them and shut them in prison until I could tag and sell them on Saturday.

“We’re innocent!”

I have threatened Harley if she gets bred through the fence.  It would just kill her with her back injury.

Harley

So she left Xerxes and went to tortured the March bucks.

“How you doin’?” “Love that scent you’re wearing. Come let me get a better whiff.”

They kind of deserved it.  Anyhow, there’s eight fewer bucks on the farm.  I have eight more March kids to leave the farm, and then it will just be the June kids that need sold later in the fall.
