Out For Breakfast

20 Jul

I didn’t think I’d see the fawn again once I got the goats off the front pasture, but it was out for breakfast the other morning.

Seeing it next to the fence, it might be a little while yet before it can jump out.  I will enjoy every sighting I get!

Vixen’s Girl Visits the Vet

15 Apr

We had a pretty nearly perfect kidding season this round.  We didn’t lose any moms or kids.  Everyone is feeding their babies.  Life was grand!  Then I noticed Vixen’s girl, Fawn, had a watery eye.  For some reason, the lower lid turned in.  That means her lashes were constantly rubbing against her eye.  Usually, if they have an entropion eye, it is obvious right away.  I don’t know why hers started curling under now.

It’s quite painful!  I shut her and her brother and her mom in, so my mom could catch her.

She visited the vet and got a clip put on the lower lid to hold it out, so the lashes don’t rub.  It will stay on there for a week or so, until it just falls off.

By then, it should stay in its proper position.  She was very happy to get back home to her mother and brother.

It already looks much better.  Now we’re back to pretty much perfect!

Who’s There?

4 Jul

You never know who might pop up when you’re walking through the pasture.

We’ve startled young deer a couple of times this summer.  The last one was so little yet that it didn’t really know how to run away from us.  I didn’t have my camera though because I was playing hide-n-goat-seek.
