This and That

7 Mar

The hens have started laying eggs again.

SOOC (straight out of chicken)

It seems to be the start of cat fighting season.  I am not a fan of this season.

Rocky cracks me up.  He always lies like this.

I’m still knitting.  I’m up to five completed hooded scarves and started a sixth.  This pattern is so easy  that I can still knit it when I’m sleep deprived from checking goats in the middle of the night. I think I need to sell some so I have money to buy more yarn.

I am bringing all of my products home from the store in Des Moines.  It just wasn’t working for me.  I’m thinking about Etsy or something else.  I do have my on-line store, but there’s something to be said for the platform recognition with Etsy.

I’m also trying to add fine art prints to the items I have for sale.  I love the paper they are printed on.  It’s a really heavy art paper.

Wish me luck finding a venue that works better.

And Sky.

Why is it every time he’s lying there looking handsome and I got to take his picture, he jumps up to come see me?

Egg Overload

13 May

The girls have really kicked the egg production into high gear.

Nugget and ladies

I can’t keep up with them.

I used to use one or two eggs each day for Snickers, but he’s on a canned cat food kick-specifically seafood.

I keep forgetting to ask people at work if they’d like a dozen eggs.  Luckily, it’s spring salad time, so I’m making egg salad and every other kind of salad I can think of that takes eggs.  Today it was pea salad.

Mix together and refrigerate:

  • 2 cups frozen peas (mostly thawed)
  • 2 hard boiled eggs (diced)
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped celery
  • 1 Tbsp. bacon bits
  • 1/2 cup finely shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup Miracle Whip (or mayonaise)
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1 tsp. brown mustard
  • 1/2 tsp. parsley
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1/4 tsp. dill
  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper

Yum!

Odds and Ends

23 Oct

It’s that time of year when I just don’t have time to blog (and take pictures) every day, so I’m doing almost all of my blog posts on the weekend.  That means I get behind in what’s going on.  Today, I’m just sharing a few odds and ends.

Friday, I gathered seven eggs from the chickens.  I have nine hens and nugget, but the two old hens don’t lay eggs anymore.  This is the variety I get from the hens.

Love all those colors!

My dad came out last week, and he put the new roof on the well house.  That’s a good job done.

Now I just need to re-paint the whole thing.  Sometime.  I don’t know when.

The buffer strip around my corn field got mowed again.

This will be the last batch of hay for the year.
