More From the Storm

20 Jan

My dog was not happy that I did not start with scooping snow in the yard.

But, honestly, he spent a lot of the time (and I had a three-day weekend) lounging in the house.

And I did get it scooped Sunday morning because I wanted to make sure it would melt the last of the snow/ice I couldn’t get when we were back in the upper 30s on Tuesday.

The cats were all snuggled in too.

My driveway was really drifted too.

Luckily my nephew came with the backhoe and cleared it out.

I am so grateful that he comes to do my driveway.

Finally, I’ve started seeing some of the girls with Xerxes coming into heat.

Xeres

Xerxes with LilyAnn and Daisy. I think they’ve both come into heat.

But I seriously hope I’ve missed a bunch of them coming into heat because of the weather.

I already moved Astra over so she could be back with Perdita

I’m getting ready to separate them because I don’t want to have kids all summer with the planned genealogy trip.

Getting Stuff Done

17 Jun

I’ve been working on getting a lot of projects done that I just couldn’t get around to before I was done working for the summer.  Of course, some of them require help because I don’t have the equipment or skills to do them on my own.

But progress is being made!  First, my dad sent a mower out so I can mow myself.  The first thing I did was mow behind the giant rock pile.  Yay!  That is much better.

It also has allowed me to get the wheelbarrow through there so I could clean out the garage.  Of course, I had to put air in the tire before I could get started.

I haven’t been able to get it done since I had livestock in there all winter.

That was quite a task, and even though it’s scooped, I still have a lot of cleaning and rearranging to do yet.

My nephew stopped by one day and spread out a bunch of the rock.

I’m liking that!  No more water ponding in front of the garage door.  I might also be able to put something besides the Ranger in the south side of the garage.

I’ve also prepped the milk room door for a stoop to be placed there.

We’re going to move this big concrete slab to try and keep the mud out of my milk/soap rooms.

Because I didn’t have a mower for a while (and my push mower might not work since the goats took the gas cap off last winter and I don’t know how long it sat there like that), I ordered a machete and a weed eater.

I’m really liking delivery.  I’ve started waging war on the weeds around my farm.  The machete is necessary to get rid of all the huge cockle burrs.

I can actually see my front gate and not fight through tall grass to get it open.  I’m liking the weed eater, but I went through the whole battery life in no time flat.  Obviously, this is an ongoing project.

Another delivery was replacement clothesline because the goats might have chewed the old line to bits.  I had some, but I didn’t have enough to do the whole thing, so it should be here soon.  I’m hoping to use it for all my laundry this coming weekend.

I washed the llama coat I made last winter

These tasks have been keeping me quite busy lately, and I have a lot more of these small home/farm improvement jobs planned.

This and That

The Nugget

The nugget is getting big.  I’m still going to insist that the chick has to be a girl (not that I really have a clue yet).  I think it’s safe to say that, even though mama is a Phoenix hen, the egg donor was a barred rock.

The phoenix chickens and the peacocks like to roost in the rafters at night.

I don’t know how mama got her little nugget up there.

But she managed to get it down in the morning too.  I’m impressed.

The Garage.

When I was at work on Friday, another load of dirt got hauled in and added to the front of the garage.  I think I will actually be able to get the Ranger in and out without having to use the all-wheel drive once the gravel gets spread over there.  I can hardly wait until it’s done!

The Rain.

It might be a while until they can do more work because we had another surprise rain Sunday morning and it rained on Monday too.  The mallow is really looking happy with the rain though.

The Calf.

The calf nursing is Purple 11’s baby that was born here.  He’s already getting big!
