Soaping!

18 Sep

One of the reasons I had to take a break from canning tomatoes was because of soaping.  I shared that I had sent a bunch of soap and lotion to a store in Des Moines, and that left a lot of empty space on my shelves.

I’m working on filling up those blank spaces.

Last weekend, I made eight batches of soap on Saturday.

I’m also working on keeping up with the milk from the goats.  I am getting just about a gallon a day from the five girls I’m milking.

I have to make lotion.

I got a start over the weekend, but I still have more to make.  I will also get it back on my online market to ship to people.

The small town where I used to go to the farmer’s market is having their fall festival.  I’ll be taking my soaps and lotions there.

It will also be my first opportunity to take other items.  I’ve already sold a few sets of llama balls (for the dryer), so I need to make more and take them.

I’ll also take my knitted dish cloths and coasters.

I’ll also take my rugs.

It will be nice to get to set up and see everyone whom I used to see weekly throughout the summer.

More Fiber Stuff

27 Feb

It has been crazy with the weather and taking care of Tony and everything else, but I do try to do something fun and relaxing after I get done with all my work for the day.

Pluto, Tony and Anubis

That might be knitting.  I’m kind of stuck on dish cloths.

Now I just need to find a new farmer’s market to take all these dish cloths to sell.

I did also manage to sneak in making another hat.  The yarn beside it will be my next hat.  This one actually fits an adult!

Because so much is going on, this post keeps getting pushed back, so that means I’ve also completed the second hat.

I also decided to turn the scarf I made using the rice stitch into an infinity scarf.  I have to admit it’s because I didn’t want to make tassels.  I like this better anyhow. Please ignore the model.  I had no other options.

Now I’m working on an infinity scarf using the fisherman’s rib stitch.  Obviously, I like green.

Recently, I’ve added spinning.  I’m trying to figure out how to use the spinning wheel Claire left for me to learn on.

I’m having mixed results with that.  I just keep my practice sessions short, so I don’t get too frustrated.

Most recently, I’ve tried some macrame.  I shared my feather already, but I am trying other things too.  I sometimes have a bit more help than I need.

Sky and Snickers

This one was a little piece just to practice the knots and such.

I do have plans for this pattern in a bit larger size.

I also want to integrate some of the roving from my llamas into macrame projects once I get it back from the fibre mill.  I should really quit looking at Pinterest; I already have too many ideas for things I want to try.

A Gift

23 Feb

I was recently gifted with some yarn.

I just love all the greens!  When I was buying yarn to make dish cloths, I couldn’t find any with greens, so I’m thrilled with these.

Of course, I started with a dish cloth.

Then I did a complete shift and decided to try my hand at a macrame feather.  Not bad for a first effort.  I do need to practice more of the shaping, but I’ll take this for a first effort.

There’s also this hand died merino skein that I’m not sure what I’ll do with because it is so beautiful.

I’m pretty sure my skills are not at a level to make something out of this yet.

I’m definitely going to keep practicing until I can do it justice.
