Fiber Stuff

9 Apr

You might remember that I was planning on taking an advanced weaving class through the fiber mill, but that has been cancelled due to the Covid19.  I will try to take it when they can reschedule after thinks get better.  It wasn’t long after the class was cancelled that I got a message that the fiber I delivered to the mill last summer was ready to be picked up!  I was very excited about that.  I had all of Maybeline and Odie’s fleece turned into cored yarn.

Odie, Maybeline, and Maybeline

Now I can use it for more rug projects!  I have also been knitting in the evenings when I have time.  I started a new project.  When it’s done, it will be a kimono style sweater.  I’m not brave enough to try sleeves yet.

Unfortunately, I think I need one more skein of each color, so I decided to order it online so I didn’t have to leave the farm.  Hopefully, it will be here by the time I need it.  Since I was ordering yarn, I decided to order a lighter yarn to do a similar summer sweater.  This is the pattern I will use, but the yarn will be different.

Maybe I’ll get brave enough to try actual arm holes and sleeves some day.

And while I’m waiting for my yarn to be delivered, I am playing with the pattern above as an infinity scarf.

A Couple More Classes

21 Oct

I spent my weekend taking two more classes from C&M Acres.

The first was a class on how to use the rigid heddle loom.  It was a lot of fun, and I made a short scarf.

The second class was rug weaving.  I got to enjoy good company, too.  I got to play with more of the cored yarn that I really like!  This time though, I didn’t knit a rug.  I got to use the big loom and some 100% suri alpaca cored yarn.

It did not take Snickers very long to try out my rug.  He approves.

It was a really nice relaxing weekend!

We’ve Been Rainy

25 Jun

The last several days have been rainy.  Luckily I’m not flooding and the weather hasn’t been severe, but it’s been hard to get out and do things.

Running back to the barn because of another pop-up shower. (Notice Casey trying to snag a walnut leaf on his way by and Moose piggy backing off him. That’s what brothers-from-another-mother are for!)

That means I’ve been doing in-the-house things, like knitting.  I’m doing one more practice rug with the giant needles before I start the round Maybeline rug.

I’ve been doing more coasters too.

If Antigone were in this picture, it would be the trifecta of brattiness.

Cupid and Hera

The little kids up north have been having fun on the tree between showers.

The spiderworts are blooming.  I actually have one bunch left in front of the dog house.

This poor admiral butterfly was having a hard time flying with the bent wing.

Snickers lounging on the deck.

I’ve also been repotting some of my house plants as I keep preparing for the new windows to be put in later this summer.

Hopefully, today is the start of a less rainy period.  I’ve got outside stuff to do!
