Trying to Stay Cool

20 Jul

We are ridiculously hot again.  Everyone just lounges around.  The goats are heading out to pasture fairly early in the morning.  They hang out under the trees during the hottest part of the day. It’s too hot for me to go out there, so all my pictures are from the barnyard.

Maybeline just hangs out luring Tony over so she can spit on him because she might be pregnant. Who knows?

On Wednesday, we had a line of storms pass through that brought everyone back up to the barnyard.

At least it cooled us down a bit before the ridiculous heat returned.

I am spending my time making sure everyone has plenty of clean water and that they aren’t getting overheated.

One evening, I did have to hose Aurora down to cool her off.

Aurora (And look-the pool is still clean!)

I’ve been worried about Tony, too, but he’s hanging in there. I’ve added a fan in the buck room to help keep the air moving.

The goats are doing okay.  We’re all ready for a break.

We are now looking at the end of this long stretch of hot weather.  Next week looks to be back to more reasonable temperatures.  Thankfully.

Scenes From Around the Farm

27 May

We’ve had much better weather the last part of this week, and it’s made me want to go walking in pasture.

I was rewarded with seeing the bobolinks again.

I also got to see a squirrel.  I know.  They’re not exactly exotic, but I always enjoy their chattering.

I was surprised that the swallows let me get this close.  They are usually flying all over.

There’s cottonwood fluff floating around everywhere in the Back Forty right now.

Cinnamon and her boy were enjoying the grass yesterday evening.

Snickers was happily lounging on the deck.  His nose is really starting to look better.  Thankfully.

Of course, we had today’s beautiful weather interrupted by another series of storms coming through.

That means I still need to mow my yard, and I still don’t have my garden in.

Friday’s Hunt v3.4

27 Jan

Welcome back to Friday’s Hunt.  I want to thank everyone who joined in last week.  I had a lot of fun visiting everyone who linked up.  It’s very simple.  Anyone can participate.  The link opens at 7pm Central time and will close Sunday at 7pm, so you have plenty of time to enter.  Hopefully, you’ll be inspired to visit some of the other entries.

If you didn’t participate this week but would like to next week the topics will be:  Starts with E, Week’s Favorite, and personal.   I will always keep a list of the items for the coming week in my sidebar at the top.  I am crazy busy with teaching and working on the farm right now, but I will make sure to visit all participants.  Without further ado, here’s my interpretations for the week.

Starts with D: All the D goats in my herd–Daisy, Daisy, Daisy, Dale, Dana, Darla, Debbie, Delila, Delta, Desi, Dewey, Dion, Dixie, Dixon, Doe, Doe, Dolly, Dottie, Dough, Draco, Duchess, and Duke.  Dolly is the featured goat.  She is due to have oopsie babies on February 1st.  Maybe I’ll have to give her baby an E name. 😉

Week’s Favorite:  I seriously haven’t been able to go out and take many pictures this week between rainy, snowy weather and being sick and working and, and, and.  So I’m sharing a picture from last weekend for my favorite.  This was before this miserable streak of weather began.  Hopefully, it will bring back some dry weather for kidding this coming week.

Close Up:  My little lemon (or orange) tree is still blooming.

Do you see those two little green balls?  We have fruit!  Hopefully they continue to mature.  Then I can really figure out what kind of tree it is!

Now it’s your turn!
