A Bird in the Snow

6 Dec

I was accompanied on my walk through the pasture this weekend by a red-bellied woodpecker who seemed to be following me.

I finally obliged it with a photo shoot when we got back to the barnyard.

I’m sharing today with Wild Bird Wednesday and Ruby Tuesday Too.

I do hope you’ll consider coming back to join me for Friday’s Hunt.  I have this week’s items at the top of my side bar.

Fall Allergies

17 Nov

We are deep into fall, but we haven’t really had much cool weather.  We had record warm temperatures again today, and the allergies are killing me.

I’m ready for the predicted change that’s coming overnight.  I’m hoping that will end the daily sinus headaches.

I’m sharing with Good Fences (you can’t hardly see it for all the tall weeds in the ditch, but it is there!) and Wild Bird Wednesday.

I hope you’ll come back and join me for Friday’s Hunt.  This week’s items are at the top of my side bar.

Confusing Weather and Birds

25 Oct

Our weather has been unusually warm this month.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s been great for staying outside all day at the pumpkin patch.  But today, we took a dive and have really cold rain.  This weekend (just in time for the pumpkin patch) it’s supposed to be nice again.  I think the birds might be confused too.  We do have woodpeckers year round.

This ingenious red-bellied woodpecker figured out a do-it-yourself bird feeder.

But eastern bluebirds are here just during the summer months.  I’d think it’s getting a bit late for them to be here.  (You can click on the image to make it larger.  The birds were really blending in.)

In contrast, dark-eyed juncos are usually here in the winter.  I used to think they were just called snow birds because we never see them unless there’s snow, and then they are everywhere.

All of these images were taken during my walk yesterday.

I do hope you’ll come back and join me for Friday’s Hunt.  I have this week’s items listed in my sidebar.
