Eviction Notice

3 Apr

I think I’m going to have to give Blaze and Gidget eviction notices to get them out of the yard.  I opened the gate and suggested they go out to pasture.  Blaze just looked at me and took a long drink of the water that doesn’t have geese playing in it.

Then she ambled back to the back yard where Gidget was finishing the last of the corn they had, each in their own food pan with nobody to push them out.  Together, they wander around to eat in the yard and garden.  Later, they’ll go to sleep in their part of the greenhouse without anyone else trying to take their spot.  Wonder why they like where they’re at.

Their kids are really getting big and doing well.  André is just too cute with his fuzzy wattles!  Gidget is doing a good job of raising him.

Of course, she has her maa as a good role model.  Amazingly, Blaze is raising both of her kids.  This will be the first time she’s ever been able to raise more than one baby.

Her udder is such a mess that she just can’t feed her kids.  See her kids (on top) nursing a teat and there’s also an extra teat on each side.  Because they are uneven and different sizes, it just doesn’t work.  Gidget has four teats (on the bottom), but they are all even and doesn’t seem to be a problem.  André  nurses all four!

I’m really not sure how to get them out of my yard, but they all seem happy and healthy.  Guess I’ll worry about it when it’s time to plant the garden.

I do hope you’ll come back to join me for Friday’s Hunt.  The items for this coming week are in the top of my sidebar.

Today I’m sharing with Mosaic Monday, Scavenger Hunt Sunday (all photographer’s choice), I Heart Macro, and Macro Monday 2.

Soap Room Update

26 Mar

While I’ve been busy kidding this week, my soap room has been getting a lot of attention too.  If you remember, about eight months ago my garage looked like this:

Now it looks like this in the early morning light.

SOOC after

Come on in.  I have the keys in the door to the soap room (at least until it’s done).

I actually had someone come this morning to look at my soaps and candles!  That means I decided to set up a temporary display.  Some of the scents are positively delicious!

We aren’t finished yet.  The water is not functional, and there’s a few small things left to do, but we are almost there!

SOOC Kitchen Soap Room Sink

Right next door to the soap room, I had three of my milking girls with their kids.  I can hardly wait to start milking in the milk room.

It’s all very exciting!

I’m sharing with Scavenger Hunt Sunday (items:  before/after; delicious; kitchen sink; an animal; key), Shadow Shot Sunday, Fun Friday Favorites, Willy Nilly Friday, and SOOC Sunday.

If you want to participate in this week’s Friday’s Hunt, you still have time to enter.

Spring Scavenger Hunt

20 Mar

This week’s items for Scavenger Hunt Sunday are: stairs, flower, green, hair, and how you feel today.

Flower:  It’s spring!  I am thrilled that it’s the first day of spring.  Of course, I no longer have flowers in my yard because of goats, but I did stop I bring some home last weekend.  I mistakenly thought I’d have time to take some pictures.  I quickly snapped this one today.

Hair:  Goats are mammals.  That means they have hair.  Blaze’s babies are doing well.  I love watching them bounce and play now.  They are really starting to join their mom in browsing around the yard.

Stairs:  One of their favorite places to sleep is on the stairs under my deck (which really annoys their mom), but I didn’t get a picture of that.  Instead, you get Bob following me up the deck stairs after I was checking goats.

Green:  I am still trying to get caught up in my soap making.  I had to move the soap I made last weekend (the Kentish rain is blue and green; plain is, well, plain) because I made another four batches between goat checks this morning.

How I Feel Today:  Um.  I’m loving my life today.  It’s crazy.  I’m out checking goats and new kids.  I’m totally sleep deprived.  I’m enjoying the beautiful spring weather.  I’m looking forward to spring soap sales and getting my soap room finished soon.

I’m mostly exhausted though, and I’m really grateful to my mom for making me some chocolate chip cookies.   They might get me through this week of kidding.

If you’d like to join me for Friday’s Hunt, I have the list for next week at the top of my side bar.

Along with Scavenger Hunt Sunday, I’m sharing with Fun Friday Favorites, Mosaic Monday, Macro Monday, and Monday Mellow Yellows.
