Making Round Bales

13 Aug

After we finished with my small square bales, my nephew came back the next day to finish making they hay from my pasture and waterways. He makes round bales for his use.

It’s kind of amazing to think that it can pick up the hay and wrap it in netting and then set it out of the baler.

It does take a bit of talent to do that on my hills without having them roll down to the bottom.

There has been an occasional mishap where the bale ends up in the ditch, but it had been a while.  This time, two ended up in the ditch.  We’ll blame it on the nephew rushing to get the job done.

I’m still impressed with how green the grass looked.  This week, we slipped from “abnormally dry” to “moderate drought” according to the USDA report.

Surprisingly, my nephew was racing against the clock to get the hay picked up before rain got here.  This is why he was rushing.

He lost.  He had to quit baling because the rains came. It wasn’t a lot again, but I will certainly take it and be grateful for every drop!
