The Goslings Have Visitors

9 May

The geese are doing a good job of taking care of the babies.  All three are still there.

Back on the nest

The other day while I was doing chores, I heard a noise.  Moira was also checking it out.

We had visitors!

They were just outside the barnyard at the end of the lane.

They were checking out the goslings!

And my big geese were certainly keeping an eye on them as well.

How cool to have visitors.

WOW! That must be a first! How neat that they came to visit. I wonder what they were thinking – (if geese can think!!) It’s easy to tell that your geese were concerned about the visitors! Very interesting. I’m glad you were able to get some pictures.

I just got to wondering – Can your big geese fly? They have such large bodies, they must be pretty heavy.

My mother-in-law used to raise geese, and would roast one for dinner on special occasions. They were quite tasty. Mind you, the roaster was full of the fat by the time they were finished in the oven.

The African geese are smaller bodied than a lot of the domestic geese, and they can get a little flight going, but not very much. The bigger bodied ones can’t fly at all.

Canada geese are known to join domestic flocks. My neighbor has some that visit and stay year round.

I am glad the goslings are doing well, they are so cute. The Canada Geese are all over the place, I see them everywhere. Have a great day and a happy new week!
