Trouble Makers

27 Jun

Those March babies are getting big.

Gouda is a monster.

They are getting as big as my yearling girls.

Left front to back: Trooper, Bandit, Wendy and Cupid, a yearling, on the right

They are also trouble makers!

The other day when I went to get hay for Vinnie, I saw someone had made a mess of my bale.  But who?  Well, I got my answer yesterday when I went in the barn…

Bashful

Bashful!

Here he is later coming up to say he’s not sorry for messing it up and napping on it and eating it.

I really do need to start selling the March kids.

I’ll have to make several trips with so many of them, but I think I’ll start with the big trouble makers.

More Moving Goats

26 Jun

I keep telling you that goat herding is really nothing but moving goats from one place to another.

Lucky, Bambi and Dahlia

I moved more goats around.  I wanted to get Vinnie and LilyAnn out of the buildings by themselves and in a larger space.

I’m also not about to play hide-and-goat seek with the littlest kids on the farm, so they had to go up north.

Venus

I’m sure Ringo will like getting to play with other kids.  Although, can you see LilyAnn giving me the stink eye?  I trimmed her hooves, and it was a bit melodramatic.  Seriously…

Anyhow, it was already crowded up there, and I was feeding hay and lots of sweet feed, but the March babies were not getting much to eat, so I kicked them out.

I was not happy that Mary was trying to let Bubbles and Tootles nurse. She doesn’t have anything.  That’s why I could let these kids out.

Their moms are completely dried up.  I know they are dried up because I am not milking my girls that I’ve milked for the last seven years.

I did leave Astra and Ava’s kids up there because they would just start nursing their moms again.

Angela, Moira, and Squanto

I also kicked out Cookie and Zinnia.  Their kids are a little older; hopefully, they won’t get lost in the pasture.

I am also doing a horrible job of making little miss Joy into a sweet girl.  She says she’s way too sassy to be tamed.

We’ll see.  I’m not giving up yet.

We’ve Been Rainy

25 Jun

The last several days have been rainy.  Luckily I’m not flooding and the weather hasn’t been severe, but it’s been hard to get out and do things.

Running back to the barn because of another pop-up shower. (Notice Casey trying to snag a walnut leaf on his way by and Moose piggy backing off him. That’s what brothers-from-another-mother are for!)

That means I’ve been doing in-the-house things, like knitting.  I’m doing one more practice rug with the giant needles before I start the round Maybeline rug.

I’ve been doing more coasters too.

If Antigone were in this picture, it would be the trifecta of brattiness.

Cupid and Hera

The little kids up north have been having fun on the tree between showers.

The spiderworts are blooming.  I actually have one bunch left in front of the dog house.

This poor admiral butterfly was having a hard time flying with the bent wing.

Snickers lounging on the deck.

I’ve also been repotting some of my house plants as I keep preparing for the new windows to be put in later this summer.

Hopefully, today is the start of a less rainy period.  I’ve got outside stuff to do!
