My Best Mistake Ever?

12 May

I got the message that my roving was ready to pick up from the fiber mill!  Yay!  Aurora’s is pretty white.

Aurora’s roving

From left to right we have Buster, Tony, and two of Odie’s bags of roving.

Buster, Tony, and two Odie

Aurora, Buster, and Tony have a fleece that should work for spinning into yarn for general use.  Odie has a classic fleece, so it would only be good for felting, rugs,or other crafting things.

Then I read the invoice a bit more closely and saw that they had turned Maybeline’s fleece into cored yarn.  Um. I’d never heard of cored yarn.  I asked why they had done that, and they sent a picture of the form I filled out with the wrong box checked. Instead of roving, I had checked cored yarn.  Well.  What to do???

I am trying to be positive and think that this might be the best mistake I’ve ever made.

Snickers was checking it out too.  He thinks it would make a nice bed just the way it is.  It’s actually fiber twisted around a core so that it’s ready to turn into a rug, crochet or knit with.

I decided to try a pattern that I might be able to turn into a circular rug.

I do like the way the test project turned out.

Snickers was checking that out too.  Honestly, he’s in everything I do.

I decided to try a coaster sized circle with the cored yarn, just to see how that worked.  It didn’t.  I need to just figure out how to knit with something that big to start with.  So I got the straight needles and started a rectangular rug.

That worked much better!

We’ll see how looks when it’s done.
