Too Many Bucks

18 Mar

I currently have five bucks on the farm.

front to back: Zeus, Xerxes, and Fionn

Dolly’s boys have names! Pluto and Anubis

Oops.  I have four bucks on the farm.  Pluto visited the vet and he is now officially the latest wether to be here for the rest of his life.  How could I not do that?  Look at that sweet face.  Okay, he had just been banded and wasn’t feeling the best for this picture, but he is just the sweetest boy!

Anubis hopefully bred Hera and I’ll have that baby to help me make the perfect kid.  Once I see what she gives me, I’ll sell Anubis.

I kept Zeus to breed a few girls that were too closely related to breed to Xerxes or Fionn.  I might breed with him for another year, or I might try to replace him with a completely unrelated buck this summer.  We’ll just see how things go.

I did notice Fionn was starting to walk pretty rough when I moved them back up north.  He’s getting old for a buck.  He’s now eight years old.  He will stay here for the rest of his life, but he’s definitely showing his age.  I’m not sure how much longer he’ll be able to do his job.

Xerxes will probably be taking over the position of my main breeding buck soon.

He’s certainly a handsome fellow.

    Thanks for introducing
me to all your bucks. Pluto is very cute. I really don’t know how you remember all the names of your animals. 😅👏🏻

Do the bucks smell bad all the time? I am sure during mating season it is a problem, but I was wondering if they are “stinky” all year around?

It generally starts late August and lingers into spring. It’s worst in October.

Your bucks are all handsome! It’s sad when one starts to get old, though. =_( .

He’s doing well, but he might want to rethink the telling his boy, Xerxes, that he’s the boss.
