A Comedy of Errors

7 Mar

Most things I do around here do not usually go as planned.  This kidding prep is no different.  One of my first issues was what to do with Mama Phoenix.

Haley stepped on her tail.  Then I moved her.  Caroline was trying to eat her food.

I finally decided to put a panel in front of her for the night; although, someone did manage to eat most of her food.

Caroline

After Caroline discovered food there, she kept trying to get to it.

She could at least get herself out.  She was never stuck.

Sidney, on the other hand, keeps thinking the hay on the other side of the panel is better and keeps getting stuck.

Sidney

In her defense, she is correct.  She was going for Tony’s alfalfa.  But I had to cut the panel to get her out the second time.

After removing her head from the panel four times, I had to dig out Hera’s old horn apparatus.  Grrrrr…

That’s also what the big fat girls were doing.  They tore the box up, knocked the buckets down, knocked the big wooden boxes down, dumped the garbage tub, and ate all of his hay.

I finally tried hanging a tub on the post.  Of course, the two little bucks and Caroline kept dumping it, but I think I finally got it hooked over the panel and tied on both sides, so it is now held so they can’t dump it.

I’m a bit nervous about the panel falling over, but all the panels I have strung up and fastened together, so I don’t think any of them can really fall.  They are pretty much in place.  At least that’s been working so far.

I also found a solution for Mama Phoenix.  I had a pen that I wanted to put her in, but it is in a building that the door is frozen shut.  That seems to be a theme around here right now, so she got a nice new rabbit hutch.

I’m still a bit nervous about that one too.  Hopefully, sniffing her tail and testing her hay is about as far as they go.

Margarita has a habit of not being where I put her, and Wednesday, Maisie decided she was done hanging out with Aurora.  Why shouldn’t she hop the fence when she’s five months pregnant?  It seems to have worked for her.  She’s back with the rest of the pregnant girls in the barnyard.

Even though we’ve had a few glitches, we are still hanging in there.
