Done Breeding

4 Feb

I had my bucks and does together a bit longer than I planned, but everyone is back where they belong now.

Xerxes, Fionn and Zeus

Because of our February thaw, it wasn’t too hard to get my gate open to let Fionn back on the front pasture/buck room.

I just had to do a little scooping of the snow along the fence.  Then I managed to get it picked up from the already thawing ground.  Cookie left the front pasture and came through the gate too, but I had to chase and catch Zinnia a couple of times and then drag her through the garage to get her back with the main herd.

Zeus is a bit unsure of being back with the big boys.  He actually liked being the king of the greenhouse.  Xerxes says he’d never hurt some little buck.  He’s a nice guy.

The girls Zeus had with him were happy to be back with the rest of the herd.

I got all of my old ladies back up north.  Thankfully, they were fairly cooperative (except Cupid).  Harley even walked and didn’t make me drag her!  They did also appreciate all the paths I shoveled through the snow drifts.  At least it’s back down to bare ground when it freezes (tonight).

With moving the old ladies, that means Tony is back to being by himself in the garage.

Well, he still had the hen’s company for a day, but she was doing much better.  She was walking well, and I gave her a toenail trim, so she got to go back to the rest of the flock.

The last goats I have to split up are Hera and the two little boys.  I kind of hurt both of my knees (in a completely graceless move while taking Zeus back to the buck pen), so they get to stay together for a couple more days.

Anubis, Hera, and Pluto

When I do split them up, I think I’ll put the little bucks with Tony for company.
