Back in the Deep Freeze

15 Jan

Yesterday’s temperatures weren’t too bad–a little below average with a fairly cold wind, but it was okay.  Overnight we had snow, the temperatures dropped to around the zero mark (-17.8 *C) and the winds picked up.

That’s where we’re sitting until it starts to improve on Wednesday.  I was so focused on checking animals and quickly snapping a couple of pictures that I didn’t even notice the sun dogs until I got the pictures onto the computer.

I’m glad I didn’t have to work today because of the MLK holiday.  I went out and gave the animals an extra feeding this morning.  Everyone but Lily got up to eat.  That means I hauled Lily back to the garge with Aurora and Stormy and Vixen.  It didn’t take her long to quit shivering and take advantage of the hay inside.

Lily

Unfortunately, Pistol is not an assertive goat, and everyone kept looking at her or acting like they were going to pick on her (or actually butting her), and she kept going outside with her girl, Astra, following her.  This is not where I want them when the windchills are at -22*F (-30*C).  I kept finding them shivering on the south side of the barn, and when I came out to take a couple of pictures, they were just standing in the middle of the barnyard.

Pistol and Astra

You guessed it.  I hauled them to the garage too.  We’re pretty much at maximum capacity in there.

I think I’m going to have to kick my car out or something if this crazy up and down deep freeze weather continues.

Vixen was considering being naughty and picking on Pistol, but I scolded her and she thought better of it–at least while I was standing there.  I hope they all settle down.

If the weather could just be a little less all over the place it would help.
