In Search of the Perfect Kid

7 Oct

I have had goats now for fourteen years.  I’ve had a lot of kids born on the farm.  I currently have around forty-five forever goats.  I want this number to get smaller because, quite honestly, I’m getting old and want less work.  At the same time, I’m horribly sentimental, so I want to keep descendants from all my goats. Well, at least all my original lines.  That means:  Millie, Minnie, Maddie, Cutie, Meg, Scarlet, Grace, Annie, Mabel, and Coffee for the girls.  All of my bucks:  Ozzy, Grover, Jack, Boeris, and Sam.  I’ve decided to create the perfect kid–a kid that has blood from all of those goats listed before.

Gidget

I have it narrowed down to five girls and Xerxes that I have to somehow combine.  It will take another three or four generations, but I think I can do it.

Hilda

I have also decided I might use a buck because I don’t want to keep a ton of goats now.  Just one or two over the next few years.  That adds another level of challenging to it.

Blaze

So if Blaze and Fionn have an awesome buck, I could breed it to Hilda and keep a girl from that combination.  Then, even if I sold the buck, the kids would still be from that line  (That’s how I got Dolly.  I kept Millie’s buck, Bam Bam and bred him to Lily.  That turned out pretty darn cute and sweet.).

Ava

In some lines, I also have a couple of generations I can use–Bonnie, Blaze and Gidget; Wanda and Ava.

Wanda

There are a couple that I only have one from that line to continue it on–Hilda and Cutie.

Cutie

Of course, I have lots of kids that have Millie, Scarlet, Mabel, Maddie, Annie, Ozzy, and Grover in them.  Yes, Sidney (and LilyAnn) come from all of them.

Sidney

It will be interesting to see what combinations I can come up with to do this as quickly (and cute, sweet and healthy) as possible.
