A Farewell to Bud

1 Aug

Saturday Bud took a turn for the worse.  The vet came, and we treated him for a possible infection, but the thought was more likely cancer.

After a couple of days of meds, he was still uncomfortable (although not in the pain he was before), so today we said good-bye to my sweet goofy boy.

A very sad and unexpected loss. They are all special, but Bud was an extra level of special. I’m so sorry.

He really was sweet. I know this summer he hadn’t quite been himself, but I didn’t realize it was cancer until this last episode. It really isn’t a surprise with all the trauma to his body with the bladder stones.

    • Teresa August 2, 2016 at 9:59 am #

It’s always a constant on a farm. Of course, my herd is getting older, and I let them retire instead of selling them. That means more good-byes, so I guess it’s a good thing.

I could tell at the tank that Bud loved his sister. I am sorry for you loss?
How old did Bud get? Is it a typical for goats’ longevity?
    May he RIP. 😉

    • Teresa August 2, 2016 at 3:45 pm #

Bud was six. That is a bit young, but two years ago, he had bladder stones and nearly died. He went through three surgeries, and he did really well. I would guess, however, that the stress and injury from the bladder stones led to this cancer. Bud would have been lost without his sister. Luckily, she is a bit more independent.

  24. Pondside August 2, 2016 at 9:44 pm #

What a sweet face Bud had. I was so touched by the photo of him loving his sister. It doesn’t matter how old they are, it is so hard to lose an old friend.

    • Teresa August 4, 2016 at 4:29 pm #

Those goats are amazing with the close family bonds they have. Thank you.

Hard to let go of our furry family but it becomes necessary for them at times. Sweet tribute.

    • Teresa August 7, 2016 at 6:21 pm #

Thanks. It really was the best thing for Bud. He deserved that last bit of help and love.
