Great Balls of Fire

6 Jul

We had another chance of rain yesterday afternoon.  I walked in pasture and looked up and had a few sprinkles fall as it was dark in the distance with thunder rumbling and rain falling elsewhere yet again.

Still, there was another chance overnight.

Ever the optimist, I went to bed expecting to be woke up by thunder and rain on my window.   I did not expect to be woke up at 1:30 am to a buzzing and an open portal to Hades outside my upstairs bedroom window.  But that’s what happened.  When the buzzing and the glowing orange stopped, my electricity was gone.  I was pretty sure demons were coming in through the window, so I headed downstairs and tried, rather unsuccessfully, to sleep on the couch.  After a couple of hours, the electricity came back on, so I figured I was safe and went back to bed.  My head had no more than hit the pillow when I heard the sizzle again and the glow of fire came knocking on my window.  They knew I was back!  I decided I was too tired to care.  Let the demons drag me down to the bowels of the earth.  When I woke up at 5:30, the electricity was coming back on, and I hadn’t been summoned before Hades.  I rolled over and slept until it was time to go milk.  I will say, I heard the sizzle a time or two again, and my electricity blinked a couple more times, but it’s always easier to dismiss demons when it’s light outside.

I was thrilled to see in my high class redneck rain gauge that we got about a tenth of an inch.  At least I won’t have to water the pumpkin patch and garden tonight.

Anyhow, my mom came out to help me with the supplemental bottle kids, and I decided to forget about the horrors of the night before.

We were coming out of the barn after feeding kids when I heard my mom’s horror-filled voice.  “Teresa. Fire.”  I had heard the sizzling surging through my electrical lines again, and the power was out.  Then I caught up to her and saw the look in her eyes.  “Fire in the tree.”  So it turns out my hallucination of a portal to the underworld wasn’t really a hallucination.  In reality, there was a branch across the road that was rubbing against the electrical line causing all these problems.

I have to say, I am just a little disappointed that I missed the huge fireball my mom got to see in the light of day.  Sorry there’s no picture of it either.

I called the electric company, and it wasn’t long until they came out to take care of it and get my electricity back on.  I did hear one of them say that he had seen that tiny little branch their second time by here, but he didn’t think that could be it.  Of course, it wasn’t charred at that time.

Well, we have another chance of storms passing through again tonight.  I hope this time it has more rain and less drama.

At least the goats didn’t get scared!!! That would have been quite chaotic!

They were all in the barn safe. Well, except Reva left her twins out in it. I guess that’s my only reason for being glad it was only a tenth of an inch.

You make a good story teller but glad it all worked out and you did get some rain.

It was a bit scary not knowing what I was seeing.

I’m really glad that you didn’t have any serious fire! What a blessing that your mother saw the fire ball!

It was good she saw it. I could pass it on to the electrical company.
