A Blast of Winter

24 Mar

I was really enjoying the spring weather, but winter made a return.  Duke and Duchess have spent their entire life sleeping in the dog house.  They love it!

Our weather turned cold, and the green house door kept blowing shut, so Blaze had to join them in the dog house.

Don’t worry, I put them in the green house and shut the door so they were warmer because we had a winter storm go through that left a half inch of rain, horrible winds, and then freezing cold with a bit of snow.

Today is still horrible cold and damp and windy.  At least the weather has improved a little.  Duke and Duchess are back out in the dog house while Blaze browses in the yard.

It’s not good kidding weather.   Clover’s boy got chilled, so he’s had a bottle and is snuggled in a blanket on the couch.

I will be moving them to a warmer place.  I’m also going to shut Dolly in the nice insulated room in case she decides to kid tonight.

I also had to go out to pasture in this cold to check my Mary since I just finally decided she was bred last week.

There she is browsing and looking quite boring.  She is so tired of me feeling her udder to decide whether or not she’s pregnant that I can’t get near her now.  I don’t know how I can get her over here to the kidding pens.

I also checked Victoria.  She is the one that is driving me crazy because she was with the buck and she doesn’t look pregnant, and I don’t think she’s making an udder, but it’s been a weird year.

Before you tell me there’s no way she’s pregnant looking that svelte, here’s Stormy.

About eight hours later, she gave me a twin buck and doe (in the middle of the night and cold).

I have two or three to go, and I will be quite relieved when we are back to spring weather and all the kids are safely on the ground!

If you want to join me for Friday’s Hunt, the items are at the top of my side bar.  I might have found an M by then.  Hopefully…

Sharing with Good Fences and Skywatch Friday.

Oh Teresa, what a busy time for you….kidding and keeping them warm. Hopefully Spring will settle in soon. If it was me, I would have them all on the couch wrapped in blankets!! Love the two snowy white kids…..you might have to call one a ‘M’ name to fit in with Friday Hunt….LOL!

Well, the wet spot I found on the couch this morning is a good reason to just have the weather outside cooperate. LOL

  9. Rajesh March 24, 2016 at 9:48 pm #

You are taking pretty good care of them.

    • Teresa March 25, 2016 at 5:00 pm #

Thanks, Rajesh. I try my best.

Pity about the change in weather but everyone looks good and is well cared for, thanks to you.

    • Teresa March 25, 2016 at 5:01 pm #

I try. Wouldn’t have been able to do it without my mom. That’s for sure.

The juxtaposition of bucolic images and stressful kidding is a feature of your life, I guess. I hope you have a little ‘time off’ for the Easter weekend and that all the kidding cooperates!

    • Teresa March 25, 2016 at 5:01 pm #

So far so good with kidding. I wouldn’t trade my life for the world!

  12. Eileen Wise March 25, 2016 at 10:14 am #

Hello, the winter is just crazy! I love the kids in the doghouse. I hope all is going well with the kidding. Happy Friday, enjoy your weekend! Happy Easter to you and your family.

    • Teresa March 25, 2016 at 5:01 pm #

Thanks, Eileen. Happy weekend and Easter to you too.

Sorry, it turned back to winter! Have you thought on Mary for the M?
Have a happy Easter – I link up for Fri Hunt, but I’m away …

    • Teresa March 25, 2016 at 5:02 pm #

Luckily, this time of year winter doesn’t last long. Mary cooperated quite nicely for me to use her. 😉

I don’t know how my comment got put up there in the middle!

  15. Ida P. Krause March 30, 2016 at 11:11 am #

Sorry to be so late commenting. It’s always fun to see what your little goat family has been up to. Looks like it’s the seasons for babies. How sweet. Sorry that you’ve had such cold weather though for this time of year.

    • Teresa March 30, 2016 at 1:56 pm #

It certainly has been busy this past week. Glad to have you stop by.

I’m sorry to hear you are in the cold again. I’m so far behind, but I don’t want to miss any happenings at Eden Hills, so you might find me popping in all over the place. I hope a warming trend is in your future. Love the kid on the couch – and the doghouse duo.

No worries! I am so far behind in visiting people, I know I’ll never be caught up. I just keep plugging away.
