Gray Skies and Silver Linings

31 Mar

Yesterday was a horribly gray, dreary (but warm) day.  Do you see those rows of green in the field?  That’s rye.  We planted it as a cover crop to help with weed control in what will soon become this year’s pumpkin patch.

The goats were enjoying the pasture.  The rains didn’t come until evening.  Then there were some downpours.  Luckily, it didn’t leave us too much rain.

The good thing is that it was wet enough that today was not a day for tiling.  That means, that the water was hooked up in my soap room.  I’m busy moving in, and I hope to make my first batch of soap out there this weekend.

This evening, we have a mix of dark clouds, puffy clouds, and brilliant sunshine.  Of course, they are calling for a mix of rain and snow by morning.  Surely that’s just Mother Nature’s April Fools joke.

I do hope you’ll come back tomorrow to join me in Friday’s Hunt.  The items for this week are listed at the top of my sidebar.

Spring Cleaning

30 Mar

The last day of my spring break was perfect!  The weather was warm and calm.  It was a perfect day for tackling the pile of tin that was left lying by the Amish crew that put up the shell of my new building.

I borrowed my dad’s truck and filled it up.  By the time I had it all in there, it was quite full!

Luckily I had the help of my son for unloading.

We took it to the Car Country dumpster in my little town.  It’s there for anyone to throw their scrap metal in.  I’m pretty sure I filled it a time or two by myself last summer.  Hopefully, I can do the same this year.

Today’s real treasure is getting rid of all that trash.  Somebody might want it though.  I may have seen my ninety-two-year-old uncle dumpster diving last summer.  I love getting this junk cleaned up and recycled.

Now it’s ready for my nephew to finish moving dirt and sculpting the driveway and hill my building is on.

I do hope you’ll come back and join me for Friday’s Hunt.  The items for this week are at the top of my sidebar.

The End of Break

29 Mar

I went back to work today.  It’s always hard to go back after a break.  I’d much prefer to stay home and watch kids.

Still, it’s light a lot later (so why am I doing a blog post before dark), and I can still enjoy them in the evening.  I do hope you don’t get tired of seeing Dolly and Rufus because I think they are awfully cute.

I do hope you’ll come back to join me for Friday’s Hunt.  This week’s items are listed at the top of my sidebar.
