Sweet Minnie Pearl

10 Dec

Minnie Pearl is the oldest goat I have ever had, and every day is a new record for that category.  She has been my herd queen for the last seven-and-a-half years.

She really does take her job seriously.  When I’m out in pasture, she’s sure to see what I’m up to and decides to bring the herd back with us.

Although, that look kind of says she wasn’t thrilled with my choice of where to cross the ditch.

She made it though!  She’s doing quite well for someone who is turning twelve in a couple of months.

Love my herd queen!

Your herd queen is entitled to give you a ‘look’ at her age, but it looks to me like she is still leaping over ditches with ease, which is a good sign!

She is a doll. She’s always right there as soon as you go out in the barnyard.

Teresa I have just started milking goats- and already formed a special bond with one in particular a three year old doe “Lomarcon” – who we got 3 months ago. She came to us from the Toggenburg breeder commercial dairy we got our kids from and has adjusted to paddock milking like it has been done that way all her life. A gentle and sweet soul, she also has the mischievous twinkle in her eye, often egging the others on to play. Her breeder told us she was his favourite as always at the bottom of the pecking order in his herd- here she is the herd queen ( of three)! I love thinking of the many years we will get to spend together in those morning before the world really wakes up!

How wonderful! There is nothing like the relationship you have with your milking girls.
