Fill Dirt

21 Jul

One of the many problems with my garage was it’s location.  It was down a hill.  It also just kind of fell off a cliff.  We decided it needed to be raised to keep it from filling with water and snow melt.  It also needed to be built up because it was at a couple of different levels.  They tore out the old concrete, and today was all about bringing in fill dirt.  They started by sending a bulldozer out to my front pasture and pushing back all the rich topsoil.

Then my nephew went out with the dirt scraper.

He started scraping loads of dirt from the hill and hauling them up to where the garage will be built.

As he hauled it, the bulldozer operator packed it down.

They’re making progress!

They have built it up quite a bit so far, but there’s more work to do tomorrow.  When it’s done, they’ll put the topsoil back on the hill, and we’ll be ready to start building!

The right equipment makes all the difference.

And people that know how to run said equipment. It’s great having them here this last week or so. We’ve gotten more done than the last six years.
