Good. Random. First of the Month Fun.

6 Apr

I totally missed out on my first of the month post for April.  It might have had something to do with all the kids.  About the only progress up there is getting the utilities flagged (blue flags) so we can tile.  I’m hoping we’ll get the tiling done this week, but it will depend on the weather.  We’re still trying to figure out how to get rid of the big tree lying in the middle of where I want to plant my pumpkins, but we’re working on it!

Clover has bad feet, and I didn’t trim them right at the end of her pregnancy because I get worried about trying to wrestle them around when they are that far along.  I trimmed them the evening her kids were born, but I’m letting her stay on the back side of the green house.  She can come into the yard and eat green stuff, and she has plenty of hay, but she doesn’t have to worry about anyone else pushing her out of the food.  Her kids have discovered the dog house.

Penny’s udder is really hard.  I checked her milk, and it’s good.  Right now she’s not making enough to feed her kid.  We’re giving him supplemental bottles, but I’m hoping she’ll get more milk and we won’t have to keep doing the bottles.

If she doesn’t get more milk, well, he’s awfully easy to feed.

Well, I have enough frozen milk from last year to completely raise him, so he’s not going to starve no matter what!

I hope the milk issues are sorted out.

It will one way or another. He’s a good bottle eater.

Glad to hear your planning on the pumkins yet! Love your pictures of the goats & their kids.

I really do want to do the pumpkins for people to come pick their own this fall. Lots of work for that to happen yet.

You’re right – that tree is a problem! Hope you get that figured out!
The babes in the dog house are soooo cute! Sorry about Penny’s udder. I hope things improve. Her little guy is sure cute!

We’ll get it figured out. I’m just trying to find the best way to do it. Her little guy is doing quite well now that he’s getting enough to eat.

Yes, I like the little house for them too! Hoping for you the bottle -period won’t take too long:)

Well, he’s probably going to need bottles to help him out until he’s weaned. That’s okay. I have a whole freezer full of milk.

Looks like the dogs will be put out to pasture now… lol… so cute!

Stella doesn’t really use the dog house anyhow. She prefers to sleep under the deck.

Teresa, I should know this but don’t. How can you tell when a kid(s) isn’t getting enough milk? Growth? Crying? This will only be my 5th time kidding so I’m a relative newbie. Hope things turn out Ok… ever thought of adding some herbs to encourage milk production? Herbs like dill and fennel come to mind, but there are more.

In this case, he never felt full. He was skinny. When he would nurse Penny, he was constantly going from one teat to the other because he wasn’t getting anything. When I put the bottle in his mouth, he sucked it dry. No kid that’s getting enough from his mom would do that.

Does the dog get jealous of the kids in the dog house? Their cuteness never ceases to amaze me!

Stella isn’t big on the dog house. She prefers to sleep under the deck, so it’s all good.

The kids in the doghouse are so cute–like little human kids in their playhouse.

They think it’s a lot of fun to go in there where their mom can’t follow.
