The Season has Begun!

17 Mar

Sallie had her kids this morning.  She had a buck and a doe all on her own.

I’m so relieved they are safely here!

Because her udder was hard and the issues of infection in the fall, I had the vet come and check her out.  He didn’t find anything obviously indicating an infection, but he agreed I’d need to watch to make sure she was producing enough milk to feed them both.  Since I had a plan for bottle kids if she couldn’t feed them, I took her boy.  I feel horrible about it, but sometimes, if they start nursing on their mom, they won’t take a bottle.  He’s had colostrum, and I’m waiting for him to get hungry before bed.  Then I’ll see if he’ll take a bottle.  Thursday, he’s scheduled to go to his new home.

Better than okay. I’m hopeful she’ll be able to raise one. I’d have been devastated (and would Sallie) if I’d had to take both kids again this year. I’m hoping to let her keep this little girl forever.

They are all well. Her buck has taken to a bottle, so they should all be fine.

It would seem that the world is still turning – signs of seasons end (or beginning) everywhere!

Thanks. Sallie is doing well. They all are. I’ll just keep a close eye on them to make sure her little girl keeps getting enough to eat.
