Lover of Cold and Snow

6 Feb

My Great Pyrenees, Stella, loves winter.  She can take the cold and snow without a care.

Great Pyrenees

Soon we’ll get to that time of year when she sheds her double coat and still pants and is too hot.

Great Pyrenees

She’s definitely a winter girl!

Our golden…Kelly…loves the snow…but now is relegated to SoCal winters where Mom can wear flipflops in the middle of January!

    • Teresa February 7, 2015 at 9:34 am #

Poor Kelly, but I don’t blame you. 😉

I’m with Stella. We can dress for winter but hot, muggy summer days are hard to take. 🙂

    • Teresa February 7, 2015 at 9:34 am #

It would be easier for her if I could convince her to come in the house, but that’s not going to happen.

Stella is stunning! Is she a livestock guardian? We have discussed the Great Pyranees and other dogs as well as a donkey for our goats. Still unsure what direction we want to go in. We live in Florida and I wonder how the Great Pyranees would do in the tropical type heat?

    • Teresa February 8, 2015 at 8:17 am #

They love the cold and snow. They do not do well in heat at all. I know donkeys make good guardians, but they can also be mean to goats. I loved my llama. He kept coyotes away and was pretty easy going. The worst he’d do is spit at annoying kids.

Beautiful pictures of your beautiful Stella!! She’s really blessed to have that warm coat this winter!! Too bad she can’t just take it off for the summer 🙂

    • Teresa February 8, 2015 at 8:18 am #

I wish she could just take it off for summer. I wish she’d come in and relax in the air conditioning too.

  17. jesh stg February 7, 2015 at 11:18 pm #

    She has an enviable coat!

    • Teresa February 8, 2015 at 8:18 am #

She certainly stays warm out there.

Stella is a real beauty. Although there are couple of these dogs on a nearby sheep farm, I’ve never been able to see their faces up close so I’m enjoying your winter girl. I also love all the cute little baby goat butts on your sidebar. 🙂

    • Teresa February 8, 2015 at 4:10 pm #

Thanks. Great Pyreneeses are great working dogs. Stella barks all night to keep the coyotes away.

I could use a coat like that!

    • Teresa February 18, 2015 at 6:40 am #

Couldn’t we all! Of course, she just wishes it was easier to remove in warm weather.
