Walking Orders

31 May

I did it.  I kicked the two naughty drakes out of the chicken/peacock/duck building.

Drakes

I left their girlfriend in there.  She’s sitting on a nest.  The two boys keep walking along the pen trying to figure out how to get back in there.

Drakes

I’m sure they’ll settle down.  It’s not like they’re being neglected.  I gave them a handful of corn when I fed Little Bit and Quigley.

Quigley and Little Bit

They also have their pool out there.

They’ve been exploring and enjoying the new grass that’s coming up.

Drakes

It won’t be long before they settle down.  If their girlfriend hatches ducklings, we’ll let them get a good start, and then I’ll put them out too.

I’m sharing with Song-ography where the song is Keep on Walking by Passenger.  I’m also sharing with SOOC Sunday (all photos) and Bird d’Pot.

These drakes are a tad obnoxious, but they cannot preen by their ‘lady’ friend, so they sulk even after being given a treat of corn. Like lots of guys, they walk tough but are jerks anyhow. And I like ducks! Quigley and Little Bit are far better behaved…

    • Teresa May 31, 2014 at 8:41 pm #

Quigley is well behaved. Little Bit is constantly butting me when I’m out there. I do adore the ducks, but I need way more girls for the two guys.

kicked to the curb for bad behavior. at least the hens will get a rest! 🙂

    • Teresa May 31, 2014 at 9:06 pm #

They need it. Hopefully the duck hen hatches twelve girls. 😉

LOL Those two would go crazy with twelve girls!

      • Teresa June 14, 2014 at 7:06 am #

The hens would appreciate it. 😉

nice to see your farmyard animals; the ducks are fun

    • Teresa May 31, 2014 at 10:17 pm #

I do love the ducks, but the boys need a lot more girls to keep them happy.

  4. Gunilla Bäck June 1, 2014 at 1:32 am #

I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. I hope they settle down soon.

    • Teresa June 1, 2014 at 9:08 am #

They should be happy because they actually have grass on the side they’re on now!

I know sweet little pouty boys the goats get more girls. Poor babies. But I thought Ducks mate for life? Boys only you and the Ms. know who the dad is or do I see you on a talk show in the near future?

    • Teresa June 1, 2014 at 9:10 am #

They do mate for life, but that doesn’t mean the drakes would try to reproduce with anyone they can. Same with geese. It’s more of an open relationship for the male than one might assume.

  7. Erika June 1, 2014 at 2:14 am #

oops that went through sorry forgot to sign.. the mates for life pouty boys is mine lol

The drakes are cute but, they deserved their walking papers.. Glad the hen can rest now.. Happy Sunday!

    • Teresa June 1, 2014 at 9:11 am #

The chicken hens and the peacocks are very grateful. I’ve never seen such naughty drakes before.

    This made me chuckle!

    • Teresa June 1, 2014 at 9:11 am #

🙂 They should be laughed at for getting what they deserve.

  11. EG CameraGirl June 1, 2014 at 7:01 am #

Ha! The drakes will get over it. ;))

    • Teresa June 1, 2014 at 9:12 am #

They’ll be happy again when their missus joins them.

  12. Vermilon River Wildlife June 1, 2014 at 7:05 am #

They don’t look too happy!! Boom, Bobbi and Gary.

    • Teresa June 1, 2014 at 9:12 am #

They’re not that unhappy. They just want to stalk my chicken girls, which they don’t need to do.

Sweet photos and loved reading your narration. Neglected, I’m sure they’re not!!

    • Teresa June 1, 2014 at 9:13 am #

Thanks, Anni. They do have a nice place to be. Shelter, grass, good bugs and a swimming pool. They have everything but the girls.

  14. Margaret June 1, 2014 at 8:09 am #

You know, those 2 given half a change look as if they could cause trouble still. I love reading your text to go with your great photos.

    • Teresa June 1, 2014 at 9:14 am #

Thanks, Margaret. There’s always a way to cause trouble if they look hard enough.

  16. Sharon June 1, 2014 at 9:14 am #

The ducks make me smile! They do enjoy their swimming pool, I see! Thanks for a fun post 🙂

    • Teresa June 1, 2014 at 9:15 am #

They get pretty wild in the pool. Yesterday they were more focused on how to get back to the girls though.

  17. Carol B. June 1, 2014 at 9:44 am #

Very interesting. I bet the ladies are glad they got their walking papers too.

    • Teresa June 1, 2014 at 12:30 pm #

  20. Jeanne June 1, 2014 at 8:49 pm #

🙂 I had to chuckle at this whole exchange of comments! Just too cute! The “stalkers” really cracked me up! By the way – do the ducks eat snails? We have an over-abundance of snails this year….I could send some!! 🙂

    • Teresa June 1, 2014 at 8:59 pm #

I’m not sure. Don’t see many around here. They love worms and bugs though.

  21. Pat June 2, 2014 at 6:22 pm #

    Naughty, but handsome drakes!

    • Teresa June 2, 2014 at 8:50 pm #
