I don’ t know where the time goes, but here we are again at Random 5 Friday. I’m solidly in the midst of my winter break. I’m pretty sure I won’t be ready to go back to work when I have to.
I’ve been babying my laptop for several months, but it only works for about 30 minutes now before overheating. That means I treated myself to a Christmas present today. I have a new computer. I’m still trying to get used to how this one works. I think I’m really going to like it. I also got one for my mother for her birthday, but my whole family is pitching in on that one.
I took my Annie goat to ISU’s vet hospital on Monday, and they did surgery to remove her ovaries and uterus because of the fluid. They drained 19 liters of fluid from her uterus. It was also fusing to other organs, so that left lesions when they removed it. They also figured out that her uterus was so big that she hadn’t been able to adequately relieve herself. It’s amazing her bladder hadn’t burst. Sadly, later in the evening she died. That was just too much for her system to take. At least she’s no longer in pain.
The vet came today to trim Millie’s broken horn, but we both agreed that Millie had already done an adequate job. Hopefully, it doesn’t break any further, or she’ll be into the live blood well. While he was here, he also looked at Bambi’s hoof. Bambi is a brat, and I had to get food to bribe her. I managed to get a collar put on her, but then she took off running. Of course, we were in the midst of a huge pack of goats, and she began pulling me across the barnyard. I did pretty good until someone (I don’t even know who) stepped in front of me. Then I went down, and Bambi ended up dragging me across the barnyard. But we had her! He checked her foot and found just a small nick but no infection. She’s such a brat.
I have another warm day tomorrow before we drop back into the deep freeze. I’m hoping to get some gates open tomorrow because I still want to put some bucks and does together to make babies for June. Right now, the only one I know I could get back with the bucks is Reva. That’s because I’ll put her with Kizzy’s triplet from this year, Little Bit. He’s actually getting big now!

sorry about annie.
Thanks. I’m sure she’s much better now that she’s not suffering.
Snickers! 🙂 Sounds like your goat adventures are keeping you busy as usual, and with a bit of humor for us as well..picturing “the brat” pulling you across the barn yard! I’m sure it wasn’t funny at all, but to hear you tell the story and picture it makes me smile…just a little. 🙂 I’m sorry about Annie..you take such good care of your animals!!
Thank you, Alicia. It was definitely laughable. The vet was certainly laughing at me. 🙂
I read about your Annie on Facebook and that made me sad… you are having a rather rough winter with your goaties health-wise. Here’s to good health for them in the coming year Teresa. xo
I do know it’s probably going to be rough because my herd is getting older. I have about have of my girls retired. Thank you so much for your good wishes.
Snickers Reva and Little bit such charmers

Wishing you all the best in 2014..a Happy & healthy New Year!
Thank you, Eileen. Annie is much better off now that she’s not miserable.
I’m so sorry to hear about Annie.
Thank you. I always hate to lose an animal, but she’s much better off now.
I’m so sorry you lost Annie! You’re right to think that at least she’s not suffering now. Wow! Bambi sure is a BRAT! She must be very strong to drag you across the barnyard!
Thank you. To make it worse, when I went out to feed them later, Bambi just stood there and let me walk up and pet her. She is a BRAT!
Sorry you lost Annie, Teresa. Gosh that was a lot of fluid to be drained and must have been painful.
Thinking happy thoughts, you are looking to summer and new babies that you can share with us.
Happy New Year.
Judith
I do appreciate your thought. Hope you have a great 2014!
oh, my you really do keep busy with the farm & the bloggy lands – i am so sorry to hear of the loss of Annie. you really do keep teaching me oh so much about your farm times & i appreciate what you go through. how hard you work & all you do. ( :
Thanks, Beth. Despite the hard work and losing my furry family, I wouldn’t want any other lifestyle.
Hope you are okay ~ great photos of your menagerie ~ Wonderful!
I’m great. I just really do like the year end looking back. 🙂
I do hope Mille is really on the mend, poor dear. My goodness Bambi is feisty! I hope you were not hurt in the dragging and commotion Teresa. Thanks for sharing the love up-close with I Heart Macro… wishing you a very happy New Year:-)
Millie is fine. The part of the horn she broke off was dead, so it really didn’t hurt her at all. I hurt nothing but my pride in the drag across the barnyard. 🙂
lovely photos! {:-Deb
Thanks, Deb!
I can just picture you being dragged across the lot with the goats all swarming around you. – what an adventure! I am so sorry about Annie.
Thank you. I’m sure it was quite comical to see. The vet was laughing!
So sorry for Annie…

Happy New Year to you and your critters!
