It’s Cold Outside

7 Dec

The topics for this week’s Scavenger Hunt:  Where I Stood, Silver, Tiny, In the Cupboard, and Shadow

It was -8*F when I got up this morning.  From where I’m standing (or where I stood) that’s way too cold!  I had to break ice off the cattle tank this morning.

Everyone was inside trying to stay warm.  At least there was no wind when Minnie peeked out from the silver Quonset hut.

I made sure there was food for the wild birds.  This one is in the cupboard, waiting for its turn to be hung outside.

There were all kinds of tiny spikes of frost on the leaves.

The shrubs in front of the house were really covered in frost.

When I checked Stella’s water, it had frost around the heated bucket from condensation.  I think the water drop was frozen there.

Then I looked north.  Can you guess who I saw?  She’s still out of focus, but I kind of liked this picture.

Maxine was done complaining about the cold.  She looked pretty content grazing.

Norma Jean was close behind her.  It looks like it’s just her and her shadow out there in the field.

Hopefully, we’ll get back to some more normal temperatures, if that actually exists anymore.

I think you did an amazing SOOC Scavenger Hunt Shadow challenge this week.

    • Teresa December 7, 2013 at 7:03 pm #

Thanks. This was easier to combine than some weeks. 😉

Love your shots of the frost! and Minnie Pearl is so cute!

    • Teresa December 7, 2013 at 7:37 pm #

      Thanks, Jeanne!

I think it’s cold everywhere. Heading to the national finals rodeo in Las Vegas tomorrow and I think I’d rather be staying home out of the weather and away from people. I’m becoming a hermit of sorts. Photos were awesome. Thanks for sharing.

    • Teresa December 7, 2013 at 7:37 pm #

I do understand the hermit thought. I’d love to try that!

  4. TexWisGirl December 7, 2013 at 7:50 pm #

i can’t wait to warm up here again, too. mid-20s is too cold for texas.

    • Teresa December 7, 2013 at 8:06 pm #

That’s warmer than we got for high temps today. At least there was no wind, so it wasn’t too bad (and the cattle tank stayed open all day).

Very cold here n of Seattle— this will be our coldest night of the week– 14-17 degrees — about the same tomorrow 29?? and then warming to some snow on Monday and snow/sleet Tues and RAIN on Wed to wash it all away– in the 40’s woo hoo

    • Teresa December 7, 2013 at 8:06 pm #

I don’t think we’ll see forties for quite some time. We might, but it’s been cold early this year.

  6. CJ December 7, 2013 at 8:43 pm #

I guess I cant complain, we’ve been hanging out in the high teens here. I love the green plants with the frost on them! How did you not freeze going out there? Stay warm!

    • Teresa December 7, 2013 at 8:55 pm #

Thankfully, we didn’t have wind today. Otherwise, I’d have not been able to do it.

  7. pattisj December 7, 2013 at 8:45 pm #

Brrr! It looks cold from where I’m sitting, looking at your pictures. The frost is so pretty like that, but many of the plants don’t look so good after Jack Frost’s visits.

    • Teresa December 7, 2013 at 8:55 pm #

Everything here is dead and dormant, except for those evergreens. We’ll be brown until the snows fall.

  8. Alica December 7, 2013 at 10:41 pm #

Brrrr…that’s cold! I’m not ready for that yet!

    • Teresa December 7, 2013 at 10:42 pm #

Can you ever really be ready for that?

  9. Gunilla Bäck December 8, 2013 at 12:45 am #

    Beautiful frosty photos!

    • Teresa December 8, 2013 at 8:33 am #

Thank you, Gunilla. At least the cold has given us some lovely photo opportunities.

  10. Coloring Outside the Lines December 8, 2013 at 1:23 am #

It’s pretty frosty here too- but at least we can still get out and about. I heard they had a tremendous run on milk and such at the grocery store. Hope warmer days are in store for all of us soon!

    • Teresa December 8, 2013 at 8:33 am #

We’ve not had any of that icky weather yet. It’s supposed to snow today. Luckily, I’m still milking!

  11. eileen December 8, 2013 at 4:38 am #

I do not like the cold weather at all. I feel sorry for the animals. Your Minnie is just adorable. Love the frost photos, well done! Have a happy Sunday!

    • Teresa December 8, 2013 at 8:35 am #

As long as they have food and shelter, the animals do fairly well. It just the really old ones that I worry about.

  12. Tracy December 8, 2013 at 8:25 am #

Holy cow! These photos are amazing! Well done friend 🙂

  13. Yogi December 8, 2013 at 9:32 am #

I just thought we were cold. I didn’t know anything. All you photographs are great and II love your cow and goat pics.

    • Teresa December 8, 2013 at 10:02 am #

Thanks. Hopefully, we’ll get back to more Decemberish weather instead of February. Stay warm!

  14. onestillframe December 8, 2013 at 1:30 pm #

the frost photos are fun to take…and you’ve got some great ones here.

    • Teresa December 8, 2013 at 1:36 pm #

      Thanks. We’ve got snowflakes today!

  15. Amy December 8, 2013 at 1:37 pm #

Great set of shots. Loved your frosty photos…from the comfort of my home with no negative temps. in sight. (We’ve had crazy weather in the opposite direction–had a handful of wet days in the 70s this past week, which isn’t totally out or character for this part of Georgia, but is above normal temp.) Hope your family and your animals stay warm enough!

    • Teresa December 8, 2013 at 1:57 pm #

I think we’ll all be fine. They all have shelter and good thick winter coats! Enjoy your warm temps!

  16. Ida P. Krause December 8, 2013 at 1:48 pm #

Yep I see you’re about as “wintery” as we are here (maybe even a little more). Those frost shots were so pretty but I agree it’s just to darn cold to be out much.
Good to know your animals are doing okay in the cold weather.

  17. Pat December 8, 2013 at 2:40 pm #

    Love the frosty shots.

  18. EG CameraGirl December 8, 2013 at 6:25 pm #

Your shots are great but -8°F is very cold for this time of year. BRRR. Yep, even for where I live north of Toronto.

    • Teresa December 8, 2013 at 7:18 pm #

It’s more like a cold February day here. We don’t see many days that cold over the course of the winter (usually).

  19. Hannah December 8, 2013 at 8:59 pm #

I’m amazed the animals can deal with such low temperatures. I hope it’s over soon for you, we have snow and ~15*F here. Your blue heated bucket is a lovely color of blue, and the large drop of water looks like crystal.

    • Teresa December 8, 2013 at 9:02 pm #

Love those heated buckets! With plenty of food, water and shelter, the animals do well. It’s when we get the rapid temperature swings between warm and cold that is hard on them.

  20. Martha December 9, 2013 at 12:27 am #

Minnie Pearl looks happy to be in the weather. I want those leaves! Too bad they won’t last. I like the one of Maxine grazing.

    • Teresa December 9, 2013 at 6:35 am #

Minnie is generally happy most all of the time.

  21. Lea December 9, 2013 at 5:58 am #

I always enjoy seeing your animals, and the frosty frozen photos are so pretty!
Freezing rain mixed with snow in forecast here for tonight (Monday).
    Have a wonderful week!

    • Teresa December 9, 2013 at 6:37 am #

Hope you stay safe with that kind of weather! Have a good week.

  22. Christian December 9, 2013 at 4:00 pm #

    Cold but beautiful.

  23. seabluelee December 9, 2013 at 4:32 pm #

Oh, brrrr! That’s just crazy cold! Your Minnie Pearl is a beautiful lady – her white coat really lives up to her name. Love the frost photos!

    • Teresa December 9, 2013 at 5:35 pm #

Thanks. She was named after the country singer who always left the tags on her hat hanging down. Minnie has wattles hanging down. 🙂

  24. Molly December 9, 2013 at 5:30 pm #

Looks like winter is definitely making itself known in your area

    • Teresa December 9, 2013 at 5:35 pm #

With no uncertainty! We’re already below zero again this afternoon. Brrrr….

  25. Hannah December 10, 2013 at 2:25 pm #

Gorgeous photos! Tiny is wonderful I really do like it.

    • Teresa December 10, 2013 at 3:01 pm #

      Thanks! It was beautiful!
