Another Random Day

8 Nov

Even though Nancy at A Rural Journal isn’t officially doing a linky for Random 5 Friday, she’s invited us to continue playing along. I look forward to these Friday posts, so I guess I’ll continue.

1.  With the early dark, I have more time in the house. Instead of cleaning, one of the projects I’m currently working on is transferring the 20,000+ names and dates in my genealogy program from my very first computer, a Macintosh LCII (upgraded to an LC III), which I bought way back in 1993 to the Internet at

2.  We’ve had a couple of days of rain this week.  Finally, there’s water in the Back Forty again.  It’s not much, but it’s enough to say there’s water.

3.  Another winter project I’ve been thinking about is making candles.  I used to make them for the farmer’s market years ago, and it’s something I’d like to do again.  It’s been way too long.

4.  I got what I hope is my final order of soap-making supplies for the year.  Well, I guess if I place another order because I sell out of my soaps, that would be okay.  It’s just the ones I plan to make this weekend, are about the last ones that will be ready for the Christmas sales.

5.  I don’t think I’ve mentioned here, but I’m planning on selling Boeris.  I bought him to bring new blood in and hope to end having a fatal birth defect.  I’m very grateful that both he and Fionn seem to be free from the defect.  Sadly, they both throw kids with entropion eyes.  I only have a couple of girls that Fionn can’t breed, so after we’re done breeding this year, I’ll sell him.  We’ll see if I get another before next year or maybe keep a young buck to breed those couple of girls.

djali looks absolutely regal. or perhaps haughty. 🙂

    • Teresa November 8, 2013 at 5:41 pm #

      Definitely haughty. 🙂

  2. sylviakirks November 8, 2013 at 6:12 pm #

Ah, a haughty one indeed, but beautiful!! Great capture for the day — any day, actually!! Hope you both have a lovely weekend!!

Thanks. I’m sure the llama will have a pretty easy weekend. I, on the other hand, have some things I need to get done.

Djali and the other are such handsome dudes!

    • Teresa November 8, 2013 at 6:36 pm #

They are both Djali. One is just his better side. 😉

  4. genie November 8, 2013 at 6:50 pm #

Djali definitely has an attitude. Haughty was a good descriptor.

    • Teresa November 8, 2013 at 6:51 pm #

That seems to be the word for the night!

I’d love to visit you so I could make acquaintance with those enchanting looking llamas!

    • Teresa November 8, 2013 at 8:05 pm #

We just had a random visitor stop by tonight! We always enjoy that, but the llama is rather snooty. 😉

20,000 names….wow, that’s a lot! But a great idea to have it stored on the net.

    • Teresa November 9, 2013 at 6:53 am #

It’s been a fear for a while that my trusty old Mac might not live forever. It will be good to have it backed up. I’ve been researching for about 22 years.

Love the idea of “Another Random Day!” We are officially done with cattle work. Now to start the routine of feeding calves.

Oh my you are one busy lady. I forgot you are into genealogy too. How do you keep up with it all?

Can you make candles out of goat milk? If not what are you going to use?

    Have a wonderful weekend, Teresa!

    • Teresa November 9, 2013 at 10:59 am #

Some people use goat milk, but from what I’ve read it doesn’t really add anything other than interest by saying you used it. I just use good old wax. I honestly never keep up with things. I haven’t even started looking at the 1940 census, and it was released about a year ago.

An LC III was my first computer. iMacs sure have come a long way since then. What a shame Boeris carries a birth defect.

    • Teresa November 9, 2013 at 11:00 am #

Boeris doesn’t have it, but he’s awfully mean to Fionn, and I’m going to get hurt between the two of them.

    • Teresa November 9, 2013 at 2:36 pm #

You will need to keep us up to date on the possible sale(s). Hope you had a great weekend Teresa and got some of our sunny warmth. 🙂

    • Teresa November 9, 2013 at 2:38 pm #

Thanks, Nancy. Will do. We have beautiful (windy) weather this weekend.

Djali is handsome… I love genealogy too, I only have about 1700 people in mine, I’ve been working on it for years. I wish Ancestry weren’t so expensive, I’d maintain an ongoing membership… Thank you for coming by sharing your creative photography on the Weekly Top Shot, #108!

    • Teresa November 9, 2013 at 2:38 pm #

It is expensive, but since I have no life off the farm, I figure it’s worth it.

  13. Gunilla Bäck November 9, 2013 at 3:12 pm #

Djali is very handsome and it looks like he knows it too!

    • Teresa November 9, 2013 at 3:54 pm #

He is very full of himself!
