A Squirrely Random 5 Friday

27 Sep

1.  I really do feel like I’m constantly scampering hither and yon and chasing my tail after some elusive nuts.  Okay, what I mean by that is I’m quite busy.  I really was close to caught up on visiting blogs, and then it was suddenly a week later.  Really.  I am trying.

2.  I’m busy with author things.  I’m trying to find people to do blog reviews and Amazon and Goodreads reviews.  I’ve already shipped off ten copies of the novel, so I hope to start seeing reviews around the Blogosphere quite soon.  There’s still time to enter the giveaway at Goodreads.

3.  The garden is still producing.  Since I’m working full time, it’s a struggle to get things canned for winter, especially as the days continue growing shorter.  I tried roasting tomatoes last night to make a sauce.  That was pretty easy, so I am going to try some more this weekend if I can get time.

4.  I’ve talked off and on about wanting to put up an events center on the north part of my property.  Well, we have a renewed push to do this.  I’ve been calling and talking to people about water and sewer and perk tests and and and…  I believe one of my nephews is coming out this weekend to help clean up some of the junk.  We would like to have things done to host our first event next summer and then do a grand opening with a pumpkin patch.

5.  In sad news, we’ve lost all three peachicks.  I do think I’ll have to have a different male before I can successfully raise any little ones.  I feel bad for the moms because they were very good and attentive.

ADORE your fox squirrel shots! truly sorry about the peachicks. they were so darn cute… good luck with the clearing and cleaning!

    • Teresa September 27, 2013 at 1:13 pm #

I do adore the squirrels. This one was awfully cute scolding me. 🙂

  2. Beth September 27, 2013 at 1:06 pm #

i have to say this because it is the 1st thing that popped into my little pea brain – i hope you find your NUT very soon.

what a cute 5 this week. have a nice weekend & i hope you find some quiet time. but maybe you enjoy crazy times in your life, no clue??! ( :

    • Teresa September 27, 2013 at 1:13 pm #

I do enjoy staying busy, but I’m certainly ready for the slow down that comes after the garden is done.

  3. Snap September 27, 2013 at 2:34 pm #

so sorry about the peachicks. the squirrels are too cute — pesky, but cute. i’m sure your author *stuff* is exciting — good for you! enjoy the fruits of your labor in your garden!

    • Teresa September 27, 2013 at 2:46 pm #

The author stuff is exciting, but I still have so much to learn about it! There really isn’t anything as delicious as eating food you grew over the summer in January.

  4. Rose September 27, 2013 at 2:54 pm #

Hate to hear that about your peachicks. The squirrel shots are so cute…have you noticed no other word quite describes a squirrel except cute. Maybe adorable comes close.

    • Teresa September 27, 2013 at 3:01 pm #

I would certainly agree cute is the perfect word for them!

  5. Pat September 27, 2013 at 3:30 pm #

So sorry about the chicks. I love your little notch-eared squirrel. The events center sounds like an exciting project.

    • Teresa September 27, 2013 at 8:10 pm #

I’ll be able to tell him from the others. That’s for sure. It did make me think of your cute little notch, too. 🙂

  6. Ida P. Krause September 27, 2013 at 6:10 pm #

I know what you mean about trying to catch up on commenting. Seems like a never ending battle these days. I was hoping things would slow down when school started, hasn’t happened yet!
Your squirrels shots are just adorable.
Wow you do stay busy with gardening, and of course writing. I need to check out your books. I love to read (when I can find time).
How sad about the pea-chicks. I saw some this week in the park when we released the turtle. They are so cute.

    • Teresa September 27, 2013 at 8:12 pm #

I love visiting blogs and reading, but that seems like the first thing to go when my schedule gets a bit too busy.

  7. Margaret September 27, 2013 at 9:33 pm #

I remember photos of the peachicks… can’t remember why they were dying… was the male killing them? Cute squirrel photos. He looks like he was having fun. We all get busy. I find that when I get way behind, it’s just best to start up and don’t go back … I think (hope) most understand this.

    • Teresa September 27, 2013 at 9:43 pm #

I got the male and two of the females from the same place several years apart, but I’m guessing they are related. The babies died with no apparent cause. That’s why I won’t let them hatch any again until I have different genetics.

  8. Pat @ Mille Fiori Favoriti September 27, 2013 at 9:40 pm #

You are so busy Teresa, but I know you love what you do! An event center om your property sounds like a wonderful idea. The places around here that have pumpkin patches and corn mazes make so much $! I hope you get more reviews for your novel –it was a intriguing book!

    • Teresa September 27, 2013 at 9:44 pm #

I’m glad to hear you enjoyed Consent. My second novel was just released! I would love to work on the farm full time and give up the teaching. That would make my life so much easier (and more difficult in a better way). 🙂

  9. sharonodegaard September 27, 2013 at 10:45 pm #

These are great photos! We do run around like squirrels sometimes, you’re right! Congratulations on your book!

    • Teresa September 27, 2013 at 10:46 pm #

Thanks. I’m not sure things will ever slow down.

  10. Leave It To Davis September 27, 2013 at 11:00 pm #

Just want you to know that I did NOT copy you this evening….we just were thinking alike! lol I just now am looking at the other random 5 posts….and see your squirrel above mine. Talk about a coincidence!

How exciting that you have a new book! Going over to enter now!

    • Teresa September 28, 2013 at 6:55 am #

I wouldn’t think you copied me. It’s just the time of year for those cute squirrels to come up looking for food! Thanks so much for entering the giveaway.

  11. Gattina September 28, 2013 at 1:18 am #

Adorable pictures ! The squirrels we have here in the European countries (except the UK) are much smaller and red and very shy. It’s difficult to see them. I saw the first squirrel like on your picture in London it played in the garden of my son’s house and looked through the French doors to play with the kitten !

    • Teresa September 28, 2013 at 6:57 am #

They get to be pretty friendly here. Sadly, my cat thinks they are tasty, so I don’t want them to be too friendly.

  12. Stewart M September 28, 2013 at 4:11 am #

Hi there – I like the ones where the squirrel is looking through the branches.

    Cheers – Stewart M – Melbourne

    • Teresa September 28, 2013 at 6:58 am #

Yes, the cat and I were being thoroughly scolded by then. I’m going to assume it was the cat, not me, that the squirrel didn’t like.

  13. Nancy Claeys September 28, 2013 at 6:56 am #

So sorry about the little pea chicks. Sad when nature deals a cruel hand. Hope you take some time to relax this weekend Teresa.

    • Teresa September 28, 2013 at 6:59 am #

Well, tomatoes and cleaning up junk are high up on the list for the weekend. At least it’s stuff I enjoy doing!

  14. Hootin' Anni September 28, 2013 at 8:58 am #

Awwwwwwww, what a cutie pie. I LOVE the last image where it’s peeking through the branch!!

    • Teresa September 28, 2013 at 9:03 am #

I think he decided it was best to put some distance between himself and the cat. Smart squirrel!

  15. Tracy September 28, 2013 at 9:36 am #

I LOVE the squirrel pictures!! Especially the third one! Good luck with the book reviews, how exciting!

    • Teresa September 28, 2013 at 10:35 am #

Thanks. It is exciting, but it’s also a lot of work!

  16. artmusedog September 28, 2013 at 9:51 am #

    • Teresa September 29, 2013 at 6:13 pm #

  17. Gunilla Bäck September 28, 2013 at 10:21 am #

Fabulous shots of the cute squirrel. I’m so sorry you lost the peachicks.Good luck with the book!

    • Teresa September 28, 2013 at 10:35 am #

Thanks. It’s hard for those little ones to grow up. I definitely need different genetics for them to be successful.

  18. kathy September 28, 2013 at 11:34 am #

Love how the squirrel is peaking thru the leaves/branches in your last shot. Too cute!

    • Teresa September 28, 2013 at 11:35 am #

Thanks. He really did decide he didn’t want the cat near. He was really scolding us!

  19. Karen, Pixel Posts September 28, 2013 at 3:18 pm #

I adore squirrels. This one is super cute!

    • Teresa September 28, 2013 at 4:34 pm #

Cute and friendly! (at least until the cat shows up)

  20. Eileen September 28, 2013 at 5:49 pm #

Your squirrel is adorable, much more colorful than the usual gray squirrel I see here. Wonderful photos! Sorry about the peachicks. Wishing you a happy weekend!

    • Teresa September 28, 2013 at 7:39 pm #

Thanks, Eileen. I love watching the squirrels.

  21. VioletSky September 28, 2013 at 7:37 pm #

I love the colouring on this little guy.
An event centre on your farm (speaking a full fledged city girl) sounds like a wonderful idea.

    • Teresa September 28, 2013 at 7:42 pm #

Thanks. I would love to be able to work on the farm instead of leaving every day to go to work.

  22. Coloring Outside the Lines September 29, 2013 at 7:30 am #
