Growing Feathers

15 Aug

Remember those tiny fluff balls of itty bitty pullets that arrived on Friday.  Well, they are already growing feathers!

I am amazed at how smart Mother Nature is.  These chicks are going to need those feathers as our nights are starting to cool off, and there isn’t much summer left.

Some are just starting to get those wing feathers, while others are really starting to look like real wings.

Even mammals show these differences in seasons.  Kids or calves born in the cold weather months are born with a winter coat.  The kids or calves born in summer just have their summer fur coats.  What smart babies!

In contrast, the goslings that were born right before our month of unseasonably hot weather are still all down.

You can tell by the bumpy look, that they are starting to think about growing feathers.
