With school being out, most of the kids here, and the crops and fence (mostly) in, I decided to take the time to make some soap again. Goodness, it’s been so long, it was almost like the first time. Only this time, I had these wonderful molds from Hoegger Supply Co. I was excited to receive a catalogue saying they were now carrying soap making supplies! I decided to try their molds, and I ordered both the two-pound and the five-pound molds because I wasn’t sure which I really wanted.
Now I might be easily amazed, but look at how the end comes off! It makes it easy to get the soap and liner out without messing them up.
It came with the soap cutter, and the guide makes it easy for a simpleton like me to cut a straight line. Trust me, I need the help.
It gets even more amazing! The other end comes off too! How cool is that? I just pushed the block of soap forward, and kept cutting.

Now, I was so excited by how easy it was to make a nice straight cut, that I decided to experiment. I had made a large batch of soap, and it filled two of the tray molds my dad had made for me also. They don’t come with an easy cutting guide.
It was, however, the same width and length as the five-pound mold that did have cutting guides. It was a perfect fit!
I just put my ruler in front as a measuring guide, and it worked!
I had beautiful, straight cuts again!
Now all the soap has been moved to the rack, so it can dry and cure for the next four weeks. Then I’ll have lots of lovely lavender soap.
Do you think it’s a sign I need to get off the farm more often when I get this excited over something so simple? My next soap adventure: Buttermilk Castile Soap with rosemary scent.

oh I like those soap molds!! My honeyman said he would make some some soap molds but ummm if he saw these he would say … just order them LOL.. I will have to go take a look see at that place that sells them :O)…
Your buttermilk rosemary soap sounds wonderful!!!! I have a quite a few rosemary plants as I cannot seem to pass up a good deal on one LOL.. They do quite well where we live. They love the heat and lack of rain LOL… Plus they really repel bugs in the garden! I have one in almost every row now!

I have to overwinter rosemary inside. That only usually lasts a couple of years before I forget to water them enough. They really don’t like to be thirsty!
I really like your method of cutting the bars; I use molds, and I’m sometimes disappointed by inappropriate bubbles and sticking. I’ll have to check out Hoeggers! Thanks for the tip! I’ll bet they smell soooo good!
I’ve used the molds, too, but bubbles are a problem. I keep practicing, but I think I like consistent bars for selling! I was really excited to get the molds.
i think i’d get excited over soap molds too that made the job easier and ‘finer’. of course i don’t make soap, but i can revel in your joy! 🙂
It is fun! I love milking and doing things with their milk.
I have the supplies to make soap but have been too afraid to try it. Someone gave me all their soap making supplies a year ago. All I need is to get a stick blender. Then maybe some time I will get up the nerve to try making soap. I have all kinds of great recipes. Your soap looks great!!

How do you carve out the time (no pun intended) to make these beautiful soaps, Teresa. They must be so creamy nice and the fragrance of lavendar can’t be beat. Those new molds are really cool. They look amazing!
Thanks. I really do think I’m going to love those molds! Hopefully, I’ll put them to work really hard and heavy in the next week or so. I confess, with my allergies, I prefer just the pain soap the best.

Ugh, that’s AWESOME! My friend makes soap so I buy hers, but I really would like to try it. Why go out when there is so much great stuff to discover at your own house?!
You really should try it. It is a lot of fun and very satisfying to make your own.
I need to make more soap too, Teresa. My husband made my molds for me, and also made a cutting mold. These you purchased look great! I’ll have to show my hubby — for the next time he makes some molds for me. 🙂
They are nice. I love the ones my dad made, but I had no idea what type of mold I wanted. You’re lucky to have a handy husband to make things for you.

It is nice. I have lavender soap in the shower right now, and it is good.
Oh boy! You are making me want to make soap! I have the melt and pour soap that I make with herbs and mints and things but the cold process soap is so much better.
I used to do the melt and pour, but this really can’t be beat! Although, the melt and pour does fill and come out of the fancy molds much better!
Soapmaking gives me so much pleasure. Glad you got to make time for it again.
It is fun, and I’m really still doing a lot of learning.

I am impressed! Your soap looks wonderful! I have never tried to make any kind of soap, but my grandma and my hubby’s grandma used to make lye soap every year. I’d always be so excited when they shared a few bars with me! I am guessing your soap smells scrumptious and lathers up good!
I just started making soap a few months ago. So far, I’m very pleased with it. For me, I tend to leave it unscented because of allergies, but what I’m making now is to sell, so it has more scent to it.
