I had another visitor. I usually see these pretty birds out in the pasture, but I guess this one was looking for a bit of food or a drink from the cattle tank.
Suppose the little birds are jealous of the showy plumage? I would be!
These are some of my favorite woodpeckers to have hanging around.

There used to be a pair that always hung out by my deck when I first moved in. I miss them.

Beautiful colors on the woodpecker and it is great to see the other two birds close by.
Jan 29, 2013 @ 14:37:32
I do think they were jealous or just admiring such a pretty bird!

That is a beautiful woodpecker! The little birds look like they are wondering just what the heck he is doing!
Jan 29, 2013 @ 17:42:46
They were probably wondering why s/he had come up from pasture.
Jan 29, 2013 @ 16:48:37
The Redbellied Woodpeckers are pretty birds, great shots.
Jan 29, 2013 @ 17:43:07

Cool! I’d love to have them hanging around.
Jan 29, 2013 @ 19:15:51
I love hearing them pecking the old dead trees when I’m walking in the pasture.
Jan 29, 2013 @ 21:57:38
The little ones do look like they are sitting there envious of the woodpecker! Very adorable post!
Jan 30, 2013 @ 06:09:42
Thank you. I love watching the birds.
Jan 30, 2013 @ 00:47:26

Such lovely patterns on this bird! Lovely capture of them as well.
Jan 30, 2013 @ 06:10:37
They look so fancy with their markings. I think that’s why they are a favorite.
Jan 30, 2013 @ 05:10:51
I like the way you just hint at the fact that you some many different sorts of woodpecker hanging around that you can pick and choose which ones you like! Have a heart – I’ve not seen one for years!
Cheers and thanks for linking to WBW.

PS: great pictures even if they made me “homesick”!!

Thank you. So sorry you don’t get to see woodpeckers. They are so fun to watch. I am always happy to share.

Nice captures!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
Jan 30, 2013 @ 09:47:56
Thanks! This was quite the cooperative bird.
Jan 30, 2013 @ 10:44:57
We have one of these but I have only seen it twice and neither time with my camera in hand. Great shots. I love my woodpeckers. genie
Jan 30, 2013 @ 11:48:17
They usually don’t sit there for me. By the time I hunt them down by the sound of them pecking on a tree they’re usually gone. I was happy to get a couple shots of this one before s/he took off.
Jan 30, 2013 @ 12:42:32
I find our red-bellies are bossy, so the little birds tend to keep their distance!
Jan 30, 2013 @ 13:06:24
I was surprised to see those little ones right there. Of course, I was surprised to see the woodpecker that close to the house too.
Jan 30, 2013 @ 16:40:06
We’re blessed with a robust population of Red-bellied Woodpeckers locally. (Don’t tell Stewart.)
Wonderful shots of a beautiful bird!
Jan 30, 2013 @ 16:41:36
Thanks. I see them all the time out in my pasture.
