This peahen has been sitting on a nest for two months now. I don’t know how she can do it. I would remove her because the incubation for peafowl is twenty-six to twenty-nine day, but she started with four eggs. Then there were eight. Now she’s back to three, but her whole nest has moved a couple feet from where she started. I don’t know how long she’s been on the current eggs.
Poor girl. I hope she either hatches something or gives up soon.

a very long brooder!
Oct 16, 2012 @ 14:06:34
I think she’d be bored to death!
Oct 16, 2012 @ 14:26:33
I have a little hen a banty who has been broody for two months now,I had to throw away a couple of the eggs they stunk. She has been sitting on this last egg for at least three weeks gonna have to get rid of it soon. Ellen from Georgia

She was off the nest for a bit last night. I’m hoping she’s just given up. If not, I’ll remove it soon.
Oct 16, 2012 @ 14:52:24
Poor thing, nature’s urges can be so hard sometimes.
Oct 16, 2012 @ 16:07:09
Yes, it can. At least she does have food and water close so she can sneak off quite easily. I’m hoping she’s going to give up.
Oct 16, 2012 @ 15:00:21
Awww, poor girl. Her hormones are crazy! I had a broody chicken that I broke and it took me a few days. She hates me now! She always pecks me really hard if I come near her!
Oct 16, 2012 @ 16:08:16
I’m not sure how easy it would be for me to get her off the nest. At least they are done laying for the year.
Oct 16, 2012 @ 15:03:15
That’s life. Her instincts rules and she will be there to the bitter end. (or to the eggs breaks…)
Kind of cute where she lies…
Oct 16, 2012 @ 16:08:41
I think she’s about done. If not, I’ll probably steal it this weekend.
Oct 16, 2012 @ 15:05:12
Can you give her a an egg that will hatch from another peahen?
Oct 16, 2012 @ 16:09:26
They are done laying for the year. That’s how the number of eggs kept changing. The other girls would lay an egg close and then they roll them from one nest to another.
Oct 16, 2012 @ 15:50:26
I’ve had geese that set on their eggs long past the “due date.” Had to remove them and the eggs. Poor dears — they so want to be mamas.
Oct 16, 2012 @ 16:10:10
I have several people that want some, so I was happy to let her sit. I just wish they would quit the rotating eggs. I have no idea when these last eggs were started.
Oct 16, 2012 @ 16:34:36
How sweet, she wants so badly to be a mama. Lovely photo!
Oct 16, 2012 @ 16:51:15
It’s been several years since she raised a little one. I’m sure she’s feeling that biological clock ticking away.
Oct 16, 2012 @ 18:03:00
Poor thing. She looks so determined.
Oct 16, 2012 @ 19:10:21
Finally, she seems to have given up. Of course it’s the day I post this.
Oct 16, 2012 @ 19:04:15
Wow, that IS a long time!
Oct 16, 2012 @ 19:10:37
I feel so bad for her, but I think she’s given up now.
Oct 16, 2012 @ 20:24:10
Long time to be sitting in one place.
Oct 16, 2012 @ 20:27:15
I wouldn’t be able to do it!
Oct 16, 2012 @ 20:58:12
What a beautiful peahen. I do recall you telling me of a white male. Maybe, if your very lucky she will hatch a white boy.
Oct 16, 2012 @ 21:03:13
The last time she hatched an egg, it was not hers, but a very beautifully colored hen. She could only have a white baby if she were bred to a white male. I miss my white male.
Oct 16, 2012 @ 22:27:16
This is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing.
Hope to see you on my blog:)
Oct 17, 2012 @ 06:46:51
I do think the white peafowl are just beautiful. They are my favorites.
Oct 16, 2012 @ 22:43:56
Now that’s dedication! Poor girl..
Oct 17, 2012 @ 06:47:08
I do feel bad, but she’s finally decided enough is enough.
Oct 17, 2012 @ 04:48:42
Maybe see just likes a good, long sit down! Some days, after work, I know how she feels!

I do like a good sit down and relax too, but two months is a bit much.
Oct 17, 2012 @ 05:14:23
ooohhh
Oct 17, 2012 @ 06:47:58
Oct 17, 2012 @ 10:31:45
She would make a very good mother, and I hope she hatches some eggs soon.
Oct 17, 2012 @ 10:34:55
She has raised chicks before, but I don’t think it’s in her immediate future.
Oct 17, 2012 @ 11:45:39
Hoping there is a hatch! Good luck. Joining you from wordless Wed.
Oct 17, 2012 @ 11:57:01
Thanks. I’m pretty sure she’s done sitting. Maybe next year!
Oct 17, 2012 @ 11:54:16
I feel sorry for her! That’s a long time and nothing happens!
Greetings Pia in Sweden
Oct 17, 2012 @ 11:57:19
I feel bad for her. Hopefully, she’ll have better success next year.
Oct 17, 2012 @ 14:30:19
I’m starting a new blog hop! Every Thursday night I will post Farm Fun Friday. I’d love it if you came and linked up every week.

Thanks for letting me know about it.
Oct 17, 2012 @ 14:41:27
She is a lovely girl!
I’m glad she finally decided to give it up.
Oct 17, 2012 @ 14:42:49
Me too. Maybe next year she’ll start a bit sooner and have better luck.
Oct 17, 2012 @ 20:55:50
I’m glad to hear she gave up. I have heard that some hens will starve themselves to death rather give up on a nest of eggs.
Oct 17, 2012 @ 20:59:36
She was coming off a few minutes to eat. I did see her, or I would have taken them sooner. They don’t rank as the smartest birds in the barnyard.
Oct 18, 2012 @ 09:51:30
Hope she hatches out some lil cuties for ya soon.
Oct 18, 2012 @ 11:18:29
She finally gave up sitting. Good for her. Hopefully she’ll have better results next year.
Oct 18, 2012 @ 13:26:47
Oh I hope she will get what she is waiting for! Such a love story and devotion..
Oct 18, 2012 @ 14:05:18
She’s not getting any little ones this year, but she might be able to hatch one next year.
